Review by Ayo7 -- We are Voulhire: Someone Else's End
Galen, Rowan and Demetrius flee Virko as the city is suddenly thrown into upheaval. The trio then head back to Magnum Caelum, where they rest and regroup after their adventures in the industrial city. The friends, however, refuse to remain idle in the face of danger and search for ways in which they can provide help for the perilous situation in Virko. Their search takes them to Soulhire, the capital city of Voulhire, where they encounter thickening political tensions at the very core of the state. They find out that not only the city of Virko is on the verge of a downfall, but the entire kingdom of Voulhire just might be too.
We are Voulhire: Someone Else's End is the third book in the We are Voulhire series written by Matthew Tysz. The novel unfolds, immediately following the events ending the previous novel in the series. The writing style of the novel remained consistent with that of the prequels, though it was far more pacy and gripping.
The chapters remained short as those of the prequels were, and along with the typical change in narration from first-person to third-person there wasn't much change in the writing style.
The novel blasted off from the very start and retained it's pace till the very end. Dialogues were considerably less than in the prequels and there was more detail given to the action scenes and relevant events. The novel also took a deeper dive into the personalities of the three friends, highlighting their different strengths as well as motivations and I really liked that about the novel.
It was also practically impossible to put down as the plot was compelling right from the very start. The plot wound intricately around multiple characters, and this helped create suspense and held me curious till the very end of the novel.
Descriptions were also penned down to detail in the novel more than in the prequels. Settings, characters and personalities were better described with more attention and colour. The novel's plot is an essential addition to the series' plot in general, and I can only say it will only get more interesting.
Readers of fantasy fiction as well as anyone interested in a fantasy series should definitely pick this up. As it is the third novel in the series, interested readers should endeavor to pick up the first two in the series and read those first for optimum understanding. Some scenes get a bit graphic and there some profanity used as well so I would recommend it for an adult audience.
I give this novel a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I found nothing I disliked about it whatsoever and along with its profession editing and absence of errors, it is well-deserving of the rating.
