Raven’s Peak: World on Fire Book 1

Raven’s Peak by Lincoln Cole – 4 out of 4 stars.

Raven’s Peak is the first book in the World on Fire Series by Lincoln Cole about a demon hunter working for a clandestine agency ‘The Council’, her unlikely partner and the world of evil they stop from spilling over into everyday life.

A stirring introduction reveals Arthur aka ‘Reverend’ in his cell at a secret black site prison. A legendary demon hunter who voluntarily admitted himself into solitary confinement and swore he’d never leave after the horrors of his past working for The Council (I can’t wait to read his story in The Ninth Circle). But now, he is once again being called upon after five years of incarceration. Presented with the only crisis that could ever make him leave… another hunter has gone missing, one of the best, Abigail Dressler. His Abi. Abi who is like an adoptive daughter to him and the only reason he would ever leave his self-appointed captivity. And so, this thrilling tale begins.

Action-packed from the first page, this supernatural saga introduces you to the two main characters Abigail and Haatim, as the unlikely duo are thrown together by a demons scheming. Abigail, who before being possessed by an enormously powerful demon, was one of The Councils best demon hunters but now they view her as damaged goods. And Haatim, a Theology major/ Blogger who is, well, feeling a little lost right now. Battling demons and possessed souls as they make their way to Raven’s Peak, a small town where the locals are being affected in a strange inexplicable way, their investigation begins.

Masterfully written, this supernatural tale is thrilling as it sweeps you along on a fast-paced yet easy to read plot. Well-developed characters warm your heart as you join them on their quest. One thing I loved was how the vivid descriptions illustrate their surroundings so well you think you are there with them, easily envisioning the towns, the people and the scenery. Overall Lincoln Cole has a wonderful writing style which makes it hard to put the book down once you start. I know, I read it in a day because I couldn’t put it down!

I loved the character’s interactions and how they discover new aspects of their personalities. How Abi, the tough demon hunter realises there are other ways to get the job done. How Haatim finds that although he is thrust into this world he didn’t know existed, he accepts it, finds courage and doesn’t stand by any longer. Rather he jumps in to fight right alongside Abi when it counts. And it was refreshing to see a true partnership of trust, loyalty and protection without there automatically being a romantic alliance.

Overall there is nothing that I didn’t like about Raven’s Peak. Thrilling and believable, this series has gripped my imagination to the point where I’m waiting with bated breath to find out what happens next in book 2 of the World on Fire series, Raven’s Fall.

That is why I gave Raven’s Peak 4 out of 4 stars.
