Review by rini_gogoi -- The Lost Years of Billy Battles
The Lost Years Of Billy Battles: Book 3 in the Finding Billy Battles Trilogy by Ronald E. Yates provides a comprehensive account about the life of Billy Battles. The book sheds light on the adventurous and dangerous life which Billy Battles leds in the midst of crisis of late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The protagonist, Billy Battles and his wife Katharina Von Schreiber who was a former Baroness, goes undercover for the sake of U.S government after being persuaded by a powerful old friend. Thus, they moved out of their comfortable and contented life into a life of full of danger, adventure and turmoil in Mexico.
The author discusses the reasons, mystery and turns of life, due to which Billy leaves his family and vanishes. The author does an impressive job in showing the consequences of professional troubles which deeply impacts Billy's personal life.
What I like most about the book is the true revelation of the fact that everyone has flaws and undeniably, nobody is perfect. Even the main protagonist of the book, has made some grave mistakes which not only crippled his own life, but the life of his loved ones too. The engaging and lucid plot along with the characters, is indispensable for the readers. The author also clearly, depicts the fact that serious mistakes can be made because of overthinking and vengeance.
By nature, Billy Battles is a person who defies obstacles by dealing with them tactfully in every mission. But in vengeance, without thinking reasonably, he used his every ounce of strength and determination which eventually steered him into commiting a brutal crime. According to me, it seems that the main protagonist, inadvertently was self centered in his personal life as he discriminated in taking care of all his loved ones equally.
I liked everything in this book including the historical narrative, thriller and action. I didn't find any major errors though occasionally, I came across a few typos. But overall, I am impressed with the author's demarcation about the major historical events of the late nineteenth and the early twentieth centuries.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 because of its highly readable plot, mystery, history, drama and characters. The protagonist's flaws, relationships and adventures are clearly revealed in the book.
I recommend this book only to the mature readers as this book has vivid description of crime, murder and violence. Some crimes are shown justifiable in this book, which many young readers may find disturbing.
