Review by Mmesofaith -- Sandra Eden's War by Michael Low
Sandra Eden's war, by Michael Low, is a historical fiction that tells the story of Sandra Eden a part of a special team assigned to disrupt German support systems in northern France In advance of the invasion near Normandy. The story of Sandra Eden is that of a courageous and willful woman, risking her life to fight tyranny and ensure freedom.
'It really doesn't matter if I die, because without freedom there is no point in living'. This sets the tone for the thematic projections of the themes of freedom, friendship and betrayal. The whole plot revolves around the freedom and liberation of northern France and this is achieved through the author's use of dialogues, literary techniques, imagery and realism.
The role and question of a woman's power and authority in a male dominated society is one of the pivotal themes of the novel. The author explored this through the role and character of Nancy and Sandra Eden. Sandra Eden is portrayed as an extraordinary woman, confident and assured, good-looking with a sense of humour. (pg4). Hey resourcefulness, intelligence and discerning spirit acts as a contrast to the sterotypical role of women in our modern day society. The character of Charles and Henri who kept questioning her ability to lead the marquis goes a long way to reveal the relegated role of women in our society. Sandra's response when she was asked by Henri if she will be helping them carry out disruptions, 'helping you? I shall be leading you ' becomes one of the solid foundations of the novel as her thorough leadership, bravery, resourcefulness, ability to discern traitors led the group to heroic victories.
The emotion and imagery expressed in the author's writing style were by far one of the most enjoyable aspects of the novel. The author's ability to explain events or actions without sugar_coating or decorating them were one of the factors that stood the novel out.
The style of writing is simple, clear with no ambiguity .The writing style is admirable. Commendable, the author observed grammar rules, there were no exhaustive spelling errors or grammar and the story flowed at a consistent pace. The writing, editing and delivery was excellently done. I gladly give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars.
I highly recommend this book for all readers who enjoy historical fiction, history or mystery . The simple diction crafted by the author makes it appealing for all.
