Love is a universal need for every human being. We either express it to people or it is expressed to us. The style of expressing love affects us and our subjects either negatively or positively. Learn to love: Guide to healing your disappointing love life by Thomas Jordan Ph.D. explicitly gives rich reflections of love relationships in various dimensions. It unveils what affects a healthy love life and how to recover from the disappointments of unhealthy relationships. Jordan expresses the concepts in a step-by-step format. This makes it more of a self-study guide for learning to love. He guides us on how to learn the psychological aspects attached to our love life. He does so by provoking our minds to realize the toxic behaviors learned from our past love life and how to unlearn those behaviors.

The author takes us through his own psychological love life. He explains how he formed unhealthy love experiences as he was growing up. These love experiences affected his love relationships as an adult. Through well-detailed elaborations, Jordan explains how he identified and overcame unhealthy love relations. The fact that the author shares his journey makes the guide even easier to relate to. Throughout the book, he asks the readers thought-provoking questions. I find these questions a great asset in assisting the readers to narrow down to what may be the root of their disappointing love life. Reading through the book, I was personally able to see myself through the lenses of the wisdom the author shares.

The book is reflective and insightful. However, there are two things that I found to be challenging to keep up with. There is the use of long sentences, thus, challenging to comprehend the information thereof. The author dwells so much in explaining certain reflections and guidelines. This appears like a repetition, though it didn’t affect my enjoyment while reading the book.

The content presentation format is well done. There are a few grammatical errors that didn’t affect my reading, thus, the book was professionally edited. Therefore, I rate Learn to love: Guide to healing your disappointing love life 4 out of 4 stars.

Toxic relationships are prevalent in our current world. Individuals seeking to disengage themselves from these kinds of relationships would benefit from this guide. Also, it is a must-read for those who are looking for answers to healthy love lives. The author has done quality research on the subject and exhibits great experience in the field. Thus, relationship counselors and therapeutic professionals would find this a nice piece of reference.
