The author Lincoln Cole has well spun the story of demons, religion, faith and human relations in his book Raven’s Peak the World on Fire, Book I series. It is a fictional novel and has all the mixture of horror, murder, humour, supernatural beings, etc to keep the readers entertained till the very end.
The book opens up with Freida offering a mission to Reverend which he accepted, as his daughter was among the missing people. The trail led him to an old church built on a hill where he saw his daughter in the antechamber. Emotions of fear, love, loss, grief overwhelmed him but above all, it was shame. He prayed and fought hard so that he could be there and save his daughter from the demon’s clutch. He looked up, with the dagger plunged into his heart, and remembered with a smile how he raised and trained her and there she was lying on the floor.
Haatim had moved to Arizona after his sister passed away, as he wanted to be left alone. Although it had been four months since her death, the grief of losing his sister had him losing his faith. One afternoon in Ocotillo Library, he was offered to work for George Wertman. The job at first seemed easy; all he had to do was collect evidence against a young lady. He grabbed the opportunity as a new way to divert his mind as well as to write a blog. As he proceeded with his work, he was dragged further into another whole new world which he never believed it existed. And the worst of it was that, he was already claimed by a demon and he was not aware of it. Could he be saved? Will he be able to regain his faith as he journeys into this unknown world? Will he be able to except this new world? Will he be able to overcome his fear?
Abigail on the other hand-a hunter; she was one as long as she could remember. She had a deep dark skin, high cheekbones and brown eyes with a scar on her right cheek. She was familiar with psychopaths, possessed bodies and demon worshippers. As both Haatim, who is just like any other normal human being and Abigail-a hunter cross path, the adventures began. Can Abigail trust Haatim who turns out to be the son of one of the respected member from The Order? If the Order finds out that she was involved with Haatim, she will be executed, would she take the risk? Should she take a different route? Will she continue to be the person who always keep herself on guard and work alone? Can she contain Belphegor-The demon who spreads insanity alone?
The story was amazing to read. There were parts of the story that sent chills down my spine and made my toes curl. The book was well written and easy to read. I would definitely love to read the second series if I can get hold of it.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars since the spontaneity between the chapters were lacking in the beginning of the chapters. Later on, the rhythm built up and it became difficult to stop reading. Apart from that, it was a wonderful and trilling novel. I thoroughly recommend this book to those who wants to experience chills down their spines, but advice against those who hate horror or supernatural stuffs. It is also not for those who scare easily and definitely not a bed time story.
