My Trip to Adele by R.I and A.I Alyaseer is an exceptional story that describes the lives of three main characters whose main similarity is their love of the British singer Adele. As the story unfolds we, as the readers, are introduced to each character and are given an inside look into their love-torn lives which corresponds with most of Adele’s music.
The authors’ choice to write a story using three different characters in three different settings i.e. Marrakesh, Las Vegas and Jordan is very unique and depicts their expertise in writing. In each chapter the authors’ are able to continue with the characters story without leaving any stones unturned thus enabling the readers to have a continuous look into each character’s life.
The expert use of Adele’s songs within the book has been used to relate the characters’ lives with the famous singer’s lyrics. The authors clearly have an understanding of Adele’s music for them to be able to accurately use her songs in relation with the characters they used.
Each character’s life is revolved around Adele’s upcoming concert. As each character faces different circumstances in order to make it for the concert, their lives are tossed upside down and eventually they are forced to decide whether the concert will help them resolve their issues or not.
The first character the readers are faced with is Elias, a business man, who lives in Italy but travels to Marrakesh in search of his long lost love. As his story unfolds we are introduced to how they met and how the two eventually got separated. As the readers anticipate their finding each other in the end, they are exposed to twists and turns that leave them questioning if the two finding each other would really be for the best.
The second character introduced is Yaser, a doctor in Las Vegas who seems to be stuck in a loveless marriage with his wife Mariam. Yaser and his wife are in the process of trying to fix their marriage. As the authors explain their story, the readers are able to see into their lives and deduce why their marriage is on the rocks. As the couple sees the Adele concert as their final chance to rekindle their love, they must decide whether their marriage is really worth saving or not.
The third character introduced is Nadia, a divorced single mother living in Jordan who is willing to sacrifice everything in order to gain her freedom from the oppressive way that men treat women in her country. As her story develops the readers are able to see her struggle for freedom from her ex-husband and the men in her life. As she makes plans to go for the concert with her son, she is thrust into situations that force her to choose between her freedom and her son’s love.
I give this book a rating of 3 out of 4 stars and would recommend it to any of Adele’s fans. The use of her songs in the book offers a different perspective into her songs and the authors’ proper use of grammar and accurate description makes for an interesting read.
