Digging for God by Tom Hillman

Would you like to go on a short spiritual journey to enhance your life and discover yourself? Are you interested in rejuvenating by staying at a spiritual resort? Would you like to know about life in an all-male ashram? If yes, this short read might interest you.

This book provides a brief account of a three-week stay at an all-male spiritual retreat known as the ashram. It depicts the profound spiritual journey undertaken to enhance one's life. It is written from the second-person perspective, and I truly enjoyed that aspect. It helped me dive right into the story. The book begins with a picturesque trip to the ashram, followed by a rundown of the daily routine, including meditation, meals, work, and leisure time. The author also delves into the various activities and tasks carried out at the ashram, painting a clear picture of what life there is like.

I loved the author's very engaging writing style with a little humor embedded in it. The author's excellent descriptive skills created a vivid portrayal of the ashram, immersing me in the experience. The book has a blog-like quality, offering a relatable layman's perspective of the resort. The author does not come across as preachy or force his views on meditation or life at the retreat. He just shares the thoughts of the main characters regarding the Ashram, and he even reveals the character's dilemma about joining the retreat. The book aims to provide us with a glimpse of life in the ashram and what to expect from it.

As the author mentions, the book was short and quick to read. But that fact didn't reduce my enjoyment. The author was able to engage and intrigue the readers in a short span of time. Because of his engaging writing, I wish the book had been longer and included more elements. I look forward to reading more books by this author.

I found the title "Digging for God" intriguing. It suggests that we should look for God within ourselves. In today's fast-paced world, it's important to take some time to recharge our souls and bodies. I personally meditate sometimes, so I can relate to what the author is saying. Having a small getaway like this from our hectic daily lives would be really nice.

I noticed only one error. Aside from that, the editing is incredible. I didn't dislike anything in this short and intriguing book and so I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy a quick, captivating read.

I find the themes of the book that you presented like meditation, the workings of the ashram, etc. quite captivating and relaxing. However, I think I will skip the book for now as I am not a huge fan of this genre. Thank you for your detailed review.

This must be a good book for you to give it 5 stars. I like the fact that the author does not come across as "preachy". The second-person narrative must be engaging and inspiring. I also like that this book is not too long. I think I will give it a try. It might open my mind tp other valuable perspectives. Thank you for this informative and inspiring review. :techie-studyinggray:

Wow, Priya, you always pick such fascinating books. I've actually wanted to know what it's like at an ashram (I'd never dream of going myself, though, hehe), so this book will be eye-opening. Adding it to my list now! Thanks.
