Gertie decides to leave her hometown to venture out and make it big in life. Her initial trial at acting fails as the man tries to lure her into the foot fetish business. Her misadventures and ill-informed decisions laced with philosophy and humor are satisfying to read.

'The Ping-Pong Champion of Chinatown' by James Hanna, a collection of interesting short stories about Gertie McDowell. Although these stories are different scenarios, they are interrelated and laced with humor and good lessons.

I like the fun nature of this book. Of course I wanna follow Gertie as she navigates her life and tries to make it big. I also like that it's written like journal entries, that adds a personal touch. Her fun but somehow naive personality makes for a interesting, albeit frustrating read. I'd like to see how all the 8 stories in the book intertwine.
