Great review! The book sounds fantastic and I can't wait to read it. Joey passion for his dreams is inspiring and I love that the character becomes middle-aged and is still struggling yet still has faith in his dream, how inspiring

It sounds like a common but hidden story, abuse happen in most household but Joey's story is mixed emotions, sadness and happiness at the same time. I will also be adding it to my book shelves. Thanks for the review.

A young boy, who despite all odds, makes it--becoming a great trombonist. The story sounds great. I like it that the author only included details and information that were interesting and which brought the book to life. Thanks for your nice review!

Books based on real stories are always good and exceptional. The main character of the book experienced a lot growing up, in his childhood and in his teen years. Still he managed to pursue his dream and became a great musician. Nothing brings more happiness in life than doing what you like to do most of all. Congratulations on becoming BOTD!

Being from California and having a parent that was born during the 40s, I am sure that I would like this book. I might find some similarities to things I was told about that time and the lifestyle as they were involved too. Might be interesting. Thank you for your review.

This sounds like a great coming of age novel, however I'm not a massive fan of memoirs. I think I'll leave this one.

The story gripped me from the first page. From the Amazon description I thought I was going to be disappointed. However, I was wrong. I'm now having trouble putting the book down. Thank you for the chance to read it gratis.

This book is a very smooth read. It is much like stories that you would hear around the campfire. The author speaks in a way that shows more emotion than is immediately detailed. Rather than explain the situation the author brings you into the situation through the eyes of the main character. I felt strongly for the boy and resonated deeply with him, the family, and the microcosm of American culture in which he grew up. It felt as though his personal story was cosmically linked with the overtones of depression era America, and that this book was an excellent description of the way life was, and still is in many cases.

A very realistic story,it brings a rememberance of my past life. It's just exactly as to that of Joey. I will make a step ahead to reading the book. Thanks for the wonderful review.
