You should definitely read the series. One of my favourites!
I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.

I reread this series once every couple of years. It will always be one of my favorites. I love how her writing changes and grows from each book. Everytime I finish the series, I feel a sense of great loss.

I watched the movies when I was little and I didn't expect to be amazed by the books. But then I read them and got into this whole new world. I even try to cast spells (even though I don't have a wand, I know the words). It never really works, I just get people to look at me as if I was insane.
This is one of the books I wish were never ending.

I also saw something about how the books might have different meaning - a boy in mental institution who imagines things to get over his troubles. I honestly think those people are the one who are insane, because wizard are real ;)

The Harry Potter series is by far my favorite book series. I have read all the books multiple times and each time I find something else that I have missed. Harry Potter isn't just for children. It is jovial and lighthearted enough for a young reader but there are many adult themes. Allusions to nazism and genocide are obvious to the analytical reader but are easily missed in the less observant. Regardless of the type of reader Harry Potter is enjoyable in a multitude of ways. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. It's a series that everyone should read at least part of in their lifetime.

I read the series when I was younger in Greek and later on I re-read them multiple times in English. Even though I don't write fantasy, it was the series that made me want to be a writer.

I still remember the very first time I read the 4th book. I was blown away. The whole story from beginning to end was connected and the smallest details ended up being so important. I love this series.

It might be an unpopular opinion but I find that with Harry Potter the story is great but the writing of it isn't anything special compared to other authors out there. I did absolutely love the story though, found it gripping until the end.
The purpose of a storyteller is not to tell you how to think, but to give you questions to think upon

I just finished the Sorcerer's Stone!! I too had to finally read it after all the hype over the years, and the Harry Potter shaming of my reading friends over the years :), and I absolutely loved it. @Sarah G I agree about the simple language, the language is simple, but the story and characters are complex. I actually enjoyed that. I just read The Great Gatsby and it was the opposite, great language but without a character I really loved. There is a time and place for both I think.

@gali yes this is my first read!! I loved this first book. It's been a great year, and a great start for the new year. Last year I read The Never-Ending Story, The Princess Bride and The Dark Tower Series among many others. Now I end this year-end and begin new year with the Harry Potter series for the first time.

I recently started to read the Harry Potter series and fell in love. Now I'm wondering if there are other books out there similar to these (magic, wizardry, etc.)? Any suggestions? I'm looking for something in the adult category as well. Thanks in advance!
