Title: Red States
Author: Anthony P Jones

This is a tale that will keep the reader intrigued and eager to keep going until the end. A few bad men from different backgrounds are led by The Silent Dragon Triad boss, Zhang Ju. The plan that he has concocted is so terrible it will make your toes curl. He is a particularly cruel man with absolute power as his one objective. The American CIA team are made up of a likeable group of brave men and women, including Julie, Cole and Zasha, and thankfully, they find ways to follow their movements around the globe. The reader is taken to many places, including China, Tibet, Brazil and Mexico. There are sea shoot-outs, natural disasters, espionage, and more. The pages are full and breathless, yet the author keeps the tone personable and grounded.

The chapters are relatively short, allowing me to stop at a convenient place and bookmark. The prose is flowing and intelligently structured. The novel mostly lacked long-winded reflective descriptions, which would have slowed the pace.

I envisage it as a movie with expensive sets and good actors.

Although there are some steamy scenes, the descriptions of sex are not overly graphic. Also, despite a good amount of profanity, there is not so much that it spoils the book.

This is an action-packed thriller with many millions of lives at stake. The plot is very clever, with the possibility of mass murder. I recommend it for young adults and older. It is an entertaining book that can easily be read over a weekend. Unfortunately, I found the editing less than perfect, and sometimes, I had to read a line twice to understand it fully. Despite this, I enjoyed the book and thought the plot was excellent. Because of the editing, I will deduct a point and award it four out of five stars.
