From the excerpt, you really feel for Juan and his brothers and sisters as they grow up. Juan's ability to learn mixed with his naïveté leads him to wrong conclusions about his actions thinking that he is evil. I’m interested to know how this develops as he grows up.

I'm not a fan of philosophy novels, but this book is surely a must-read for me. Even though I sometimes get uncomfortable due to heavy sexual scenes contents, I would like to give this book a try despite the negative aspects I have of it. Psychological thrillers are some of my favorite books. The evolution of someone from their youth helps me understand their motivation for acting the way they do. I wonder since he lacks proper parental guidance if he could have had an earlier intervention to prevent him from evolving into a "bad" man. Interesting review.
