It is unfortunate that she was not able to speak up about it at the time, but during the 80s and 90s in England, I can understand the reticence. Her experience, as awful as it was, led to a conviction that was long overdue. Hopefully, the organization Safe4Athletes has made a positive for many others. I hope her story helps others to speak up.
I can't agree less with you.

Just reading the review gave me chills. It is hard to imagine how many athletes have to suffer (sexual) abuse. Kudo's on giving a voice to athletes by creating a non-profit, and also for writing a book with a positive and uplifting message.

Her biggest win was overcoming her inner deamons . So sad she didn't have anyone to confide in when the abuse started.

This is an amazing review outlining the book. The reviewer shows a good understanding of the book and does not shy away from mentioning some shortcomings of the book while at the same time recognizing the greatness of the book. The book is a must read.

This biography is inspiring, uplifting and moving. It conveys a fascinating life message and motivates people to overcome adversity and traumas. It is horrifying that there are abusers in the sports field. Ultimately, it is commendable that the author is giving a voice to other athletes who have been victims of sexual abuse. That makes her a true champion.

"Rescue Me" by Katherine Starr is a very intense and heartbreaking story of an athlete. It is her journey from childhood to the Olympics. She is the victim of sexual abuse by her coach, which is really shocking. The review made me want to read this biography and want to know more about what happened to her, how she overcame her fear, and how she raised her voice against her abuse. Thank you for the great review.

Despite her achievements, Starr faced immense personal struggles. At 14 years old, she was raped by her coach, carrying the secret pain within her. She battled suicidal thoughts and disconnected from life. In this book, Starr courageously shares her transformation from brokenness to empowerment. Her story serves as an inspiration for anyone facing adversity and seeking resilience.

People who choose to not only speak up but also help others in their position are always worthy of admiration. Sixth place is not a failure, for sure. It's something most people can only dream of. She made the best out of her situation, and that was a victory.

Wow, thanks for this in-depth review! Sounds like a powerful story of resilience. Adding the context about her drinking early on is a great suggestion. Definitely adding this to my reading list!

Even thought what happened to Ms. Starr is inexcusable, I am glad that she found a way to make something good come out of it. I’m sure that many young athletes are able to speak up because of what she has created. Congratulations on BOTD!

"Rescue Me" by Katherine Starr is a biography about athlete Annabelle Cripps. Despite receiving all the necessary training and having the best coaches since childhood, she unfortunately could not achieve her potential to win an Olympic Gold Medal. The book can reveal what happened. Congratulations on being the book of the day!"
