“The Advent of Time” by Indignus Servus examines the problem of suffering in a world created by an all-loving and all-powerful God. Why does evil exist? When God expelled Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden they were exposed to the pain of child-birth and to having to fend for themselves. Evil always existed since even Satan was in the Garden of Eden and enticed Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge. The book thoroughly covers the subjects of pain and free will. Atheists do not believe in God for a number of reasons including why would God allow people to suffer on Earth. Why do people suffer and die from diseases? Some people believe that suffering in some creates spiritual growth in others. Being a devout Catholic I do believe in an all-loving God and the existence of Heaven. We are given free will to decide how we live our lives. I do believe that evil exists because Satan is active on Earth and he helps create evil and the there will always be followers of Satan, too weak to reject Satan and are willing to do evil in the world. One has to wonder how sadistic killers like Hitler, Mussolini, Attila the Hun and so many other mass killers did what they did and hope that they were punished by being sent to Hell when they died. Sadly, there have been many scholarly people in the church that denounced God because they could not accept the pain, suffering and evil in the world. I believe that Faith in God will keep us on the right path and that some of questions asked about an all-loving God will be answered. This is a very thought-provoking book that should be read by Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists and other religions that all believe in God. The two most important commandments are to love God and to love one another. Atheists would also benefit from reading this book and some may come back to believing in God.
I would love to read this book to know how the author explained the age-old issue of evil and suffering. I agree that we are responsible for our actions and need not push the consequences to something or someone else.
