From a sampling, this seems like an interesting biography about two men who grew up in the Australian outback and established the Earth Sanctuaries Limited Company designed to keep native plants and animals safe from extinction. It might be worth a second look. Well done.

Congrats on BOTD!
Not many people possess the multitalented skills of Dr. John Wamsley, who has made significant contributions to conservation and is skilled in wood carving, mathematics, and yarn spinning. "A Vanishing Kind" by John and Stephen was well-liked by readers for its conversational style.

It is an interesting book to read. What's not interesting about wildlife?

It's important to document the struggles faced by an individual after establishing the organisation. Because that will serve as an inspiration for future generations and could also be a reference model. Congratulations to Dr. John Wamsley for the go-getter attitude and for standing as an example to protect the plant and animal species from extinction.

I'm a lover of nature at its best, and getting to learn this book has tales about nature makes me want to have a taste of the author's imagination, likewise John's and Proo's activities and accomplishments.

What a great review, Teele! I sampled the opening episodes about John Wamsley's childhood, how he quit smoking, his maths achievements, and how he started on the conservation work. The kangaroo meet-and-greets you mention in the review have yet to come up. And I look forward to learning more about keeping animals in the fenced enclosures you mentioned. I felt riveted sampling this book, and it does feel like a perfect read!

It's sad to see some native plants and animal species go to extinction. Learning that there are people like Dr. John Wamsley who, at all costs, stay committed to protecting this species is incredible and motivating. Protecting their habitats seems like a daunting task since there are corrupt officials and constantly changing government regulations. I would love to read more to understand and see if John's company manages to succeed. Thank you for such an informative review.

It is pretty obvious that John will succeed in keeping the bush as a permanent part of his life. Might give the book a read some day.

What John and Stephen are doing is highly commendable. It is not easy to keep animals in their natural habitat in a world where some humans hunt them for pleasure. I will love to read more about how they are doing it.

Mother Earth gives us so much, so many things. What do we give her except grief? This book tells us how difficult it is to
give back. Congratulations on the BOTD, and best wishes for future projects.

I really enjoyed reading your review of A Vanishing Kind. The way you described John Wamsley’s dedication and the trials he faced in protecting Australia’s natural environment makes me want to learn more about his story. It’s fascinating how the book combines a personal biography with broader conservation issues. I’m glad to hear that the narrative is straightforward and enriched with relevant photos—that always helps to bring a story to life. This sounds like a must-read for anyone passionate about wildlife.
