This goes to show that being provided for with a silver spoon does not work out for you in the end. At some point one should work on their own to lift themselves out of poverty among other challenges.

The book sounds incredible! I’m particularly drawn to your description of Monica as a “goal-getter” who doesn't embrace a victim mentality, and that she has a clear focus on what is important for her. The fact that she shares her personal story, and is also able to use her experience to tackle broader societal issues, is also very empowering.

I didnt like this review, it was very choppy sounding, and kept repeating this book almost as filler and the writing didn't really flow as a cohesive whole. The review did manage to inform the reader as to what the book is actually about, an autobiography of an author who comes from Africa, and has unique insights into life in America for an African immigrant, something that the reviewer can apparently relate to. The review didn't really make me any more interested in reading the book as when I read the sample.

“They Love You Until You Start Thinking for Yourself” such a valuable read. I especially appreciate how you connected with the book as someone from Africa, and that the author is not afraid to “mention hard truths”. It's good to see more authors highlighting how important it is for people to be free from limiting beliefs

Childhood is perhaps one of the most memorable periods in anyone's life. It is a time void of the worries of the world, a time when your biggest worries are finishing your homework so you have enough time to play with your friends.
She grew up in a household with four brothers and four sisters.
They were called the MC Family.
Their family were not rich in the typical sense, but they were rich in other ways. First and foremost, they are alive and well and had a good time. Their house were rich with serenity of music.
Her father was forensic investigator
which he used to work in the crime department. He took pictures of crime scenes, which he then analyzed.

From the title, I thought this was going to be a different type of book. Reading the sample, I realised it is a memoir of the author's life in Africa. I liked reading about the author's big family with eight siblings. Thanks for the review. Congrats on the BOTD!

Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful and comprehensive review of They Love You Until You Start Thinking for Yourself. Your insights into Monica’s journey—from her Nigerian roots and family dynamics to her unyielding determination—paint a vivid picture of why this memoir resonates so deeply. It’s inspiring to hear how her refusal to adopt a “victim mentality” and her focus on growth despite societal divisions left such a strong impression on you.

Your connection to the themes of race, class, and systemic challenges in Africa adds profound depth to your perspective. The example you highlighted about government handouts and the critique of dependency versus empowerment is particularly striking—it underscores the book’s courage in addressing hard truths. I also appreciate how you emphasized the practical takeaways, like investing in oneself and confronting life’s hurdles head-on, which make this more than just a memoir but a roadmap for personal agency.

Your enthusiasm for the book’s structure, editing quality, and motivational tone is contagious! This isn’t just a read but an experience worth revisiting. Your five-star endorsement and recommendation to anyone seeking a “push” in life will surely encourage others to pick it up. Thanks again for introducing us to Monica’s story—I’m adding this to my list for its boldness and transformative insights.

Great review! "They Love You Until You Start Thinking for Yourself" is authored by Monica Omorodion Swaida.

As the title of the book suggests, it is the story of the author's life and her success, for which she credits self-love. It begins with an introduction to her family, and then the story moves forward. Congratulations on being declared 'BOTD'!
