I love reading memoirs because they have invaluable life lessons. I will consider reading "The Parrot's Perch" by Karen Keilt just to learn dealings with the Brazilian police.

Thank you for your honest review. I’m always intrigued in reading memoirs like this…the determination and strength of humans is just astounding.

Although I am not a fan of memoirs, it sounds like this author has had an experience that is important to speak about. Corruption and injustice are some the horrors of this world, and it’s admirable that the author is passionate about fighting these issues and bringing awareness to victims.

It is so sad that the author had to go through such a traumatic life, and yet remarkable that she summoned the courage to narrate her experience. I read the sample of her book and could feel her pain and the dread of her dad's unpredictable temperament. Despite the misfortunes we may encounter in life there's always hope for a bright and happy future. This is a very well done review. Thanks!

Thank you for your great review. It must have been horrible and very difficult to go and relive those times. I'm wondering if it helped in Brazil. I hope it at least helped her. Now I'm curious about what happened to her first husband and how and why he changed so much. I do like reading memoirs and especially when they are able to overcome such tragedy. Thanks to your review, I am adding it to my list of books to read.

May 19 is already a red-letter day for me because it's my dad's birthday. I hope that the author continues to heal and that such horrifying experiences are no longer happening these days in Brazil or elsewhere.

'Official Review: The Parrot's Perch' by Karen Keilt well summarizes the ideas contained in the book for readers. It provides keen readers with valuable information about the author. The point that the memoir is about the life of the author and what she had to endure is worth mentioning in the review. Also, the book remarkably teaches that a lack of social skills is no reason to quit. It was great to learn that fans of non-fiction and memoirs would enjoy the book!

The book is a memoir about the life of the author and her experiences. It's unfortunate that she was arrested for a crime she didn't commit. I'm curious to know more of her ordeal and how she was able to survive. Congratulations on the BOTD.

There seems to be a lot of interest things going in this book so I’m looking forward to digging into it to condor what happened to the author with regard to her experience with the Brazilian police 37 years ago, and why is her book titled as such.

Thank you for the compelling review, it has the gist down and is wonderfully written. I can see it will be a heart in throat moment already. It is a brave task to tell one's tale to fight against corruption. Congratulations on being BOTD!

The Parrot's Perch by Karen Keilt is one of fictitious books that catch my attention :eusa-think: because I like to learn how the author experienced and tackled with harsh situations. :o There may be some situations that can cause her suffering about injustice, isolation, violence, crimes, physical abuse, verbal attack, and torture in Brazil, but she was committed to get through obstacles, which surprises me because she is a woman. :no-spoil: Living abroad can be painful and struggling sometimes, but in order to survive, it is essential to think in an opposite way and think about how to make a spontaneous response of decisive actions to changing circumstances. Human rights is her strong determination that she wants to raise social awareness to this thorny problem. The review raises pressing issues of social injustice, which calls for our attention. :techie-studyingbrown: :techie-reference: :techie-studyinggray: :tiphat: :tiphat: :tiphat:

A wonderful review. I have read parts of this book and found it just as engaging as you did. Thank you for not trying to tell about her life in jail. I short review could never convey the depth of her experience or the way she bares her dark places to the world.

It is truly upsetting the cruelty people are willing to inflict on others because they believe it is their right or for enjoyment. I'm not certain I'll be able to read this memoir, but I admire and applaud the author for her strength and determination to get away from the abuse. Great review!

The author and her brother were alone when parents were away for the night. When a burglar broke in. At that moment I was hooked . More unfortunate and traumatic event happen through her memoir, the author shows strength to relive these events for us to read.

From a sampling, this seems like an interesting memoir about the author's life and experiences working with the Brazilian Police for almost forty years as she attempted to combat the corruption that she identifies in the government. It might be worth a second look. Well done.
