Official Review: Write For Him: The Story of GGFG
This is a book about the story of the Godly Girls for God (GGFG) compiled and written by Hillary Beth Koenig.
According to this book, girls come together on the internet and write articles about their life experiences and post material to support other girls who may be feeling alone or need support one way or the other in order to assist them go through different situations.
Write for Him is a compilation of different articles, poems, songs and stories that are to be posted on its' website and extracted from different magazines that have been written by some of its' writers.
This book concentrates on the pivotal role that God plays in people's lives especially girls and young women regardless of their circumstances and situations. It takes the reader through the challenges of being a Christian in a very hostile and uncompromising world. The author compiles different ideas and experiences and puts them together in order to give the book a personal and emotive touch in a bid to reach the reader's soul. These ideas are both fictional and real life experiences as portrayed by the respective writers.
This book is driven by the desire to inspire girls and young women through open discussion of issues and challenges that the author feels at least every girl experiences or goes through in their lifetime. The author addresses matters to deal with acceptance and feeling fulfilled. In a world in which everything seems to happen all so fast, it becomes difficult to understand what's best for us as individuals. The media gives people the perception that they need to be a particular size if they are to be considered to be beautiful and yet there is more to beauty than just body size. Challenges like losing friendships, death and dealing with parents are dealt with in this book. It is such situations that the author wants girls to understand that they are not alone and that they can rely on God. Through the articles, songs and poems, the author opens up society to the possibility that there is always someone who understands even if you feel like you are alone.
Furthermore, the book looks at the importance of believing and having faith in God even when it looks like all hope is lost. It re-echoes the fact that God is in control of all circumstances even when you feel like He is not there and He is not listening to your prayers. The author goes ahead to negative the desire to revenge and shows the reader the importance of forgiving even when we do not feel like doing so. The author goes ahead to take into consideration aspects like bullying and the necessity to ask God who provides for everything we need. Above all, reaching out to others is considered to be the best solution to many of our problems after we have prayed about situations.
Biographies of the writers are included in the book so that the reader can get more information and understanding of the writers of these articles, songs, poems and stories. A self-assessment is put at the end of the book to assist the reader evaluate oneself on one's knowledge of the Bible.
I like this book for the emotional attachment it creates in the reader. The use of first person singular makes it possible to understand the emotions of the writer towards what happened to them. The book is very realistic and does not try to create an idealistic approach to life.
On the other hand, I felt like the book needed to have more details given about GGFG. I realized that it was more of a compilation of articles rather than giving the reader more in depth details about GGFG like the title states, "The Story of GGFG". I found more introductions are needed in each segment so as to give proper introduction about the themes in those respective parts of the book. I needed more details about what inspired some of these writers.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars.
