Do I appreciate him as an author? No.
I'm sure his books appeal to many people, we're all different right? I do not personally enjoy them, they like the character and plot development that I crave.
Nothing against those who do enjoy him though. I encourage everyone to read, no matter the author.

I think his books usually have some good ideas or interesting plot lines. But his chapter breaks drive me INSANE.

But personally, I LOVE James Patterson, he is one of my favourite authors and I started his Womens Murder Club series years ago and still love it to this day. Yes, the majority of his books have similar storylines, that's because he writes books of the same genre. There's only so much crime/thriller you can write about until it becomes stupid.
I agree with above too, all his books are quick reads (to me anyway) and they definitely keep you on the edge of your seat anticipating what happens next! But it's not a crime for everyone not to like the same thing?
I personally have never read a full Stephen King book either - I've started a few, got about 1/4 of the way through and couldn't continue. His writing style just doesn't sit well with me and I find it tedious and hard-going - but that's just personal opinion.

Yes! I love a lot of his works, but lately he has just been turning out books left and right. To me that just screams "I don't care how great these books are, just that I throw a lot of them out there." I don't tend to like his co-authored works of late, and I feel that his later series books have faltered from their usual standard of quality. I actually stopped reading the Alex Cross series and Women's Murder Club books, which at one point I loved. He's a good author, but he has definitely lost some of his magic.Maud Fitch wrote:James Patterson is a prolific, diverse writer but I think that's why I don't always enjoy his books. I mean he's got series like Alex Cross, When The Wind Blows, Women's Murder Club, Maximum Ride, Daniel X, Witch And Wizard; on and on goes the list (including novels written with countless other authors) until he becomes a book machine. According to my local librarian, he has eight - yes, eight! - novels due out this year. And at least six due next year.
It seems to me that he works on the premise that quantity is better than quality.
