Anna and Rafe have two things in common. The first one is that they both have a long history with the Prestons. This history being that they were both used and abused by Eric and his army that consists of the Preston family. The second thing they have in common is that they both love each other with an intensity that makes Romeo and Juliet look like a comic book. It is actually from this mutual love that they both draw the strength to carry on with life despite all that has happened to them. It is also this love that gives them a reason to keep on fighting. To the death, if it ever comes to that.

Heartaches 2 is a well written romance novel. It touches on the theme of love and relationships very delicately yet still manages to make it seem so powerful. It is from the love between Rafe Brown and Anna that we see the true power of 'me and you against the world.' The two of them are a million times stronger just because they are together. This, to me, is the hallmark of a good romance novel. A good romance novel should depict love as a powerful tool rather than just a simple feeling shared by two people. A feat that this novel has managed to achieve.

The author was also not afraid to potray homosexual characters even despite the controversy sorrounding homosexuality in the current world. He (through the characters Pat, Dan and Rafe) show us that homosexuality is nothing more than a state of preference and that it is nothing out of the ordinary and should really not be a controversial topic as it is currently.

Heartaches 2 is the second book of the series and is clearly not a standalone novel. However, so much background is given in the beginning of the story that it is virtually impossible to get lost in the storyline. From the onset, Rafe's past and how it is intertwined with Anna's is narrated to us so as to make the reader know exactly what happened in the first book. This knowledge is extremely important to us (the readers) as it enables us grasp fully the implications of Rafe's actions and their justifications. For instance, you have to fully understand what was done to Rafe in Syria to understand why he absolutely has to bring Eric down.

The literature used is very simple for anyone. I usually find this very important in a novel because nothing sucks more than being deeply engrossed in a story yet you keep having to look up difficult words in the dictionary. And in this test, the author passed very highly given that the entire story is written in simple everyday English.

In general, I found this novel to be highly entertaining and a bit informative even. I found very few grammatical errors which did nothing to subtract to the reading of the story and for that reason, I have no other choice but to award this novel 4 out of 4 stars. I, thus, highly recommend it to all fans of romance novels and I promise them that reading this novel will take them on a ride that they absolutely want to go on.
