Heartaches 2 by H.M. Irwing is a romantic drama. The book revolves around two main characters, Anna Simmons and Rafael (Rafe) Brown. This is the second book in the Bad Boy Vibes series. This book follows the events of the first book, Heartaches. Like the first book, the amount of descriptive language in the book makes it be classified as an adult book.
Anna wakes up in the middle of the night, chased by her nightmares. She finds Rafe tormented by nightmares of his own. She tries to wake him up and is not surprised when he nearly strangles her to death. It is clear that they are far from healed from the traumatic events they have faced. In a bid to help Rafe face his demons, Anna plans a fight. Rafe is to face the cause of his nightmares, Eric Dayton. Eric was the distributor of the drug used to aid in her rape. When Rafe wins the fight by knocking Eric Dayton out cold, there is a feeling that the conflict with their adversaries seems far from over. Eric Dayton wants Anna to drop the charges she has against the Prestons. He is willing to threaten her love for Rafe to get this. Will she give in to this demand? Do the Prestons have something planned for her? Will her conflict with the Prestons and Rafe's conflict with Eric end with justice served? All these questions and more will be answered in this amazing book.
The main theme I encountered in this book was love. Anna's love for Rafe helps her deal with her demons. The same is true for Rafe. I also encountered betrayal, friendship, injustice and determination. The author used a character named Pat Cash to highlight friendship. Pat is Anna's closest friend. They prove this by standing by each other's side, time after time. The author uses these themes masterfully to not only make the characters interesting, but to also make the plot memorable.
The character development in this book was written perfectly. In the beginning of the book, Anna and Rafe are traumatized by their past. As the book progresses, they learn to lean on their friends and their love for each other. The characters were amazing and I loved following their choices. The captivating plot and the strong characters in this book made me compare it to Life Before by K. L. Romo.
I rated this book 4 out of 4 stars. This is because the story flowed effortlessly and I could not put the book down until I finished it. The unique writing style employed by the author kept me enthralled throughout the book. I did not encounter any spelling or grammatical errors. This led me to believe that the book was professionally edited. I could not find anything that needed improvement in this book. It was due to this that I gave the book a 4-star rating.
I would recommend this book to all romantic drama fans and fans of literary fiction. The reader should be warned that the language used in the book is very descriptive. The book is classified as an adult book. I would urge the reader to begin with the first book in the series, Heartaches. I look forward to reading more of H.M Irwing’s work.
