Mechanical pencil...
I started writing when I was fourteen by just filling up notebooks at night. I used a mechanical pencil for all of my school stuff and it was just what I had at hand. For a few years, I primarily wrote by hand with a pencil, but, unfortunately, I've graduated onto a keyboard. I can't say why, but I always flow better by hand with a mechanical pencil. Problem is, the practicality of Microsoft Word and a mechanical keyboard throws too much weight the other direction.
I have tried nice pens, terrible pens, and regular pencils, but hated all of the options. I obsess too much about a fine point to keep sharpening a regular pencil all the time and I make way too many mistakes to use a pen. Really, the reasons just come down to that the other options distract me. Mechanical pencils don't.
