I love erasable pens! I have the ink that can glide, but the eraser for the mistakes. The best of both worlds!

Erasable pens are all the rage in Japan. In a billion colors and they erase by friction (hence the name "frixion")... have these come to the US yet. We didn't have them when I was last there.

I usually start by grabbing what ever is closest.......then I switch to keyboard........then edit.....I prefer a mix of pencils and pens of different colors. Usually some sort of pattern emerges........that may or may not tie into the journal I am writing in, which can be a scrap of paper or a golden journal wrapped in a white gauze bag with a ribbon. Like our thoughts, writing is infinity creative................!

I'd definitely have to say pen, then if I change something, it's nice to look back when I'm finished and see how i started with one thing and gradually made it better. Instills a sense of pride in me about my work.

Looks like this will be an unpopular opinion, but:

Mechanical pencil...

I started writing when I was fourteen by just filling up notebooks at night. I used a mechanical pencil for all of my school stuff and it was just what I had at hand. For a few years, I primarily wrote by hand with a pencil, but, unfortunately, I've graduated onto a keyboard. I can't say why, but I always flow better by hand with a mechanical pencil. Problem is, the practicality of Microsoft Word and a mechanical keyboard throws too much weight the other direction.

I have tried nice pens, terrible pens, and regular pencils, but hated all of the options. I obsess too much about a fine point to keep sharpening a regular pencil all the time and I make way too many mistakes to use a pen. Really, the reasons just come down to that the other options distract me. Mechanical pencils don't.

Personally, a pen seems to glide smoother across the surface of paper than a pencil does.

Well, most of the time I use pencil, but when I want to feel fancy, I use a calligraphy pen, with only black ink.

I have an obsession with notebooks and pens. I don't really have a preference for the color of ink. Usually blue or black. When I make corrections though, I have to use a red pen.

It depends on the subject, and what stage I'm in. I like pencils in the rough draft, but pens when I'm brainstorming. There's something about having to cross off an idea instead of erasing that helps me think. Otherwise, I love the click of a keyboard.

For me I prefer pens. I use a Blue Pilot pen G2 0.5 to be exact. Pencils to me are good for drawing and diagrams. To be honest I can't write without my favourite pen.
