I find the ancient story to be refreshing in the 21st century due to the author's writing style.
I particularly like the portrayal of the two main characters, Saul and David, and how they retell the patriarch's story. I appreciate how Saul is portrayed as a "power-hungry mad king" while David is portrayed as someone who blends like a shadow into the growing conflicts between the kingship of David and Saul's heir.
