Although I like historical fictions, this particular setting did not attract me. I will be skipping this book. Thanks for the wonderful review, though.

I love historical fiction, and as someone born and raised in Northern California, I have a particular affinity for the California Goldrush as a setting for historical fiction. At the same time, for that very same reason, a book really needs to have a unique twist or view on that time and place for it to catch my interest because it was taught to me so heavily in years K-12. Still, this might be worth a read. Thank you for the helpful review.

I don't fancy historical fiction that much but your review has piqued my interest in it. From the title, I thought the book was a Christian book based on someone trying to challenge or oppose God's purpose for his or her life; I was wrong. I'll check this one out soon.

Indeed. But believe me, this book is so good that you can't put it down. The lack of relevant antagonists is just a minor flaw. Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate it. :tiphat:

The book is free on Kindle Unlimited and has a masterfully written OnlineBookClub review that is perfect for the book. I rated the book 4 out of 4 stars. Congrats on the BOTD.
Thanks for your kind words, Ferdinand. I appreciate it. :tiphat:

LeDiplomatique wrote: 19 Jan 2020, 12:27 This sounds like a great plot. I like that the author refers to one of my favorite books, Wealth of Nations. Actually, we live in a self-help world, where only the fittest survive. It would be too hard to find someone who does good without an ulterior motive. The presence of such a perfect character as Henning Dietzel draws me to the book. Thanks LinaMueller for an insightful review. Congratulations BOTD.
Henning Dietzel is a great role model indeed. Thanks for your post, LeDiplomatique. I appreciate it. :tiphat:

Thanks for passing by, Foreverrmore14. Historical fiction is great. Maybe you should give the genre another try?

Stephanie Elizabeth wrote: 19 Jan 2020, 12:34 The title definitely got my attention but I feel that it has little to do with the storyline. I am not a fan of historical fiction and I have limited knowledge regarding the California Gold, so I think I will skip this one, but thanks for the great review.
To get rich during a gold rush is as difficult as playing chess against god. That's the meaning of the title.
