According to the author the case was a conspiracy that had a third party - a tailor named , Giorgio DiSipio who helped the women to kill their husbands for some insurance money. Thank you for the review. It teaches a good lesson even as the book reveals age long prejudice against blacks, Jews and other racial minorities in Philadelphia.

I almost decided NOT to read the book based on the title.
I changed my mind after I read your fantastic review, the sample pages I read, and your comments re: title of the book.
Lesson learned (again): don't judge a book by its cover or its title!
I realized the book is character-driven, has great character development.
I'm planning to read the book.

I agree with your assessment of the characters—while they may not be inherently likable, their complexities and the moral ambiguity they navigate make for compelling storytelling. The interplay between motives driven by financial desperation, personal vices, and tangled emotions adds layers of intrigue to the narrative.
Your observation about the title is particularly astute. "The Wicked Wives" might indeed mislead potential readers, overshadowing the rich storytelling and historical context that lie within. A more evocative title could certainly broaden the appeal of this exceptional work.
Thank you for highlighting the strengths of this book and providing valuable insights into its nuances. Your review serves as an excellent guide for readers seeking a captivating tale woven with historical intrigue and human drama.
