The reason I picked this book is that I love mysteries. Memories of my childhood are filled with images of me sitting, mystery book in hand. I would read Nancy Drew mysteries book after book, watch episodes of Sherlock mysteries on TV. Even up to now, my thirst, and desire has only increased over the years. When I was growing up, there wasn’t a vast collection of mystery books for the youngest of readers. I felt this book is an amazing start for that young inquisitive mind.
Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy cat by R.F. Kristi is book seven of the series. The book is about Inca the Siberian cat who has a detective agency that comprises her siblings and friends. The team has been involved in solving some mysteries in London, England, and France. In this book, she goes on vacation to Sri Lanka to a seaside village called Galle, with her family. The sun, sandy beaches, the amazing fishy meals and ice cream aren’t enough to quench this little cat’s thirst for solving mysteries.
When they are there, an old antique sword is stolen from the main museum in Colombo. Solo, a famous detective, and their family friend is tasked to solve the mystery. He is the owner of Terrance and Polo who are in Inca’s detective agency. Inca enlists herself, and her team to solve the mystery with the aid of their new friends Ran, a sea turtle and Meena, a baby elephant. In this fun adventure, there are a few close calls when Inca gets lost while looking for Fromage, and new friendships are made.
This is a great children’s book, at just 48 pages it a short read that starts off a young reader without tiring them to fast. The simple wording and beautiful pictures make it the kind of book a parent can read to their child. The story is enjoyable, funny and it included facts about Sri Lanka and French Culture. A child learns interesting facts in a simple way. I liked how the book is part of a series but each book is stand alone. It allows the reader to follow the story even if they haven’t read the other books. I liked how the author introduces us to each character, and their quirks through Inca’s voice at the beginning of the book. I found there was nothing to dislike about the book because it was a short and easy read.
I would rate the book 4 out of 4 stars because it is well edited and written. It can be read by both adults and children. The pictures of Inca and her adventures within the book are a delight. I liked the fact it is part of a series, so there’s continuity of the story. It ensures the child gets more information about the characters and their lives without being bored with long stories. I would recommend this book to parents who have young children they would love to read to. It is also a great pick for children from ages 6-12 years, and above who are looking for something fun to read.

Thank you.sharkyjen998 wrote: ↑01 Sep 2018, 19:11 I love mysteries too! It seems like we read a lot of the same books, so I'll have to take your word for it and give this one a go.I have a five year old daughter, and I'd love to peak her interest in mystery books early. I'll have to see if this is a series I can read to her. Thank you for your review!
