Sounds like a great story, knowing he was able to accomplish so much despite his struggles. Might have to give this book a read at a later date because it sounds truly inspirational.

This book shows that determination and hard work pays. Such success stories are seldom seen on the news. It's really an inspiring book, and the author's motives are quite honourable.
Congrats on #BOTD, Hodges! It's worth it...

This personal story of success sounds inspiring. Thank you for sharing! I appreciate your comments on the author’s writing style and his ‘down-to-earth approach‘. Also, I like the stories about his dad from the sample!

Thank you for the interesting review. While I don't think that this book will be a good fit for me, I do think that it will be an inspirational novel for those who choose to read it. I like that the author gives the reader his story about all that he went through growing up and how he overcame it all. A huge success story that I'm sure will inspire many.

Another motivational book chronicling a writers journey from disadvantaged living to an advantaged one. There are a good number of this type of books out there; does this mean there are enough? For me, an emphatic No! There are still too many people living in all kinds of disadvantaged conditions and the books though chronicling rises out of former negative situations, they are all achieved through various and varied methods. It is my opinion that we need more examples to add to this needed body of knowledge. A decent review that highlights the salient points of this book. Kudos to the author Dr. V Hodges for chronicling his journey, struggles and successes and also congrats on #BOTD.

Anyone who can teach what schools don't teach is welcome. To see the pioneer African American entrepreneurs inspire their own and many others by extension is inspiring.

A whole race that had been condemned to servitude, imprisonment and premature deaths through systemic societal injustices is slowly rising up, drawing inspiration from the few success stories like Dr Vernard L. Hodges and other prominent figures in the Afro American community.
An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.

I cannot wait to read this motivational memoir. I can imagine how poor people suffer under harsh conditions and also under the hands of cruel people. There are ways which could help people battling with poverty to move out and take adventures so that they could also become rich someday.

Although the rags-to-riches model of memoirs are increasingly popular, when you combine them with motivational flavours and business undertones, you've lost my interest. I'm sure it's right up the alley of many however.

I agree with you that this author's writing style is open, honest, and uplifting. I agree with the author and you about the African American community needing strong black role models. I think the author is one such man. Thank you for your detailed review.

The book is truly inspirational. Growing up in a poor neighborhood and not allowing your circumstances influence or bring down your moral. He sets himself apart by going through college and vet school. Kudos to the author.
