What a crappy family. I'm glad that she was able to move on from it. The circus part of the book sounds interesting. Thanks for the review!

I feel the story happens for real as I read different books of Indian cultures. So sad for their life without freedom to defense themselves in a matter of rejection, abuse and being cursed.
Reading is an antidote for...
Anger
Burdens
Discouragement
Fears
Hopelessness
Loneliness
Sadness
Tiredness

Thanks for your comment! The inner workings of the circus were certainly interesting!

Oddly enough, I just finished reading a book about an American girl whose family whose mother sold her the circus during the Great Depression, in part because the girl's albinism was considered to be a curse from God. The idea of the same plot in another culture is interesting to me, but I don't think I'm ready for a book that touches on sexual abuse and trafficking. Not right now. Thanks for your thoughtful review.

It's unfortunate that I story like this could stretch across cultures. It is unfortunate what people must go through during great sufferings.
I understand needing a break from such topics but I hope you get a chance to read this story someday. It is worth it!

I just read this book. A good read, well written, but some parts were hard to get thru.
