While I like characters that aren't purely good, your discussion of the heavy backstory doesn't appeal much to me. Looking that the first couple pages, it even looks like we start in the past instead of getting us into the plot.

I never enjoy a book when the dialog is unrealistic. Glad to know that the dialog is well done and has a bit of humor. It sounds like a book I would like to read.

An interesting plot with suspense and action. A story of a hit man usually seen in films, but I have never encountered a book in person. Thank you for your review!

From a sampling, this was an interesting crime fiction. While blackmail is not my favorite element in a crime novel, it does work well with the theme of the mafia and judicial rulings. Well done.

I probably wouldn't have picked up the book based on its cover and title, but your review makes it sound a lot more interesting. I would have never guessed this was a Mafia crime novel! I'm not a big fan of the intermittent backstory telling and time jumps either, but hopefully it won't be too much of a problem for when I check out this book.

I might find the book intriguing, the plot sounds good, but typically I don't enjoy a back and forth narrative or heavy violence. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I'm a sometimes fan of crime novels but I love that he keeps his morals as a judge. Sounds like an interesting book with many plot twists

It's always an interesting angle when there really isn't a traditional good guy in a novel. Dealing with old friendships, mafia, legal proceedings, and blackmail, this book has a lot of avenues to explore, keeping the reader engaged until the last page. Great review.

I think I’ll really enjoy this book, although I’d like to read Book 1 first. The storyline seems to have all the elements that I love - blackmail, corruption, intrigue and Mafia crime! I’m excited to get started on this one!

Your review was great, thanks for sharing your view. Mob stories are great, especially with elements of blackmail.

I like this because it reminds me of noir in mystery and crime novels. I don't think I've ever really seen a movie or read a book which was mafia centered (I've always meant to read The Godfather) which also had likable characters so that aspect is not really surprising. Fantastic that there are very few errors. Thanks for your insight!
