I thought it was a good book that offered an interesting perspective on a variety of controversial topics in healthcare, journalism, philanthropic foundations, and the workplace. I gave it a a 4 out of 4 stars.

I found the book frustrating. I rated it 3 out of 4 stars. The author abandoned Hiram's inner life about two-thirds of the way into the novel leaving us to rely on interactions with other characters. The characters like Maud were interesting but seem chosen to bring out only one aspect of his character. Also, I was distracted by the undisciplined use of commas, but that seems to have been my problem since other reviewers I read did not comment on this aspect of his writing.

I would recommend this book to anyone to read. I thought it touched upon so many interesting topics. I especially loved the character of McDowell. He’s so complex and multi-dimensional. The author has created such a strong, flawed character that we sympathize with at times and condemn at others. I really enjoyed this book

I have given 3 out of 4 star ratings. McDowall was given opportunities to change his attitude to become a good person. I felt, he selected his own path for the redemption and suceeded also. This book is best suited for fiction readers.

The opening three chapters of "McDowell" were not enticing. A no-hearted egotist that leaves a friend to die and tramples anyone in his way is not someone I can feel sympathetic towards. However, once I begin a book I just have to finish it, good, bad or indifferent. This has actually led to a lot of good stories I did not anticipate. Watching McDowell fall and find redemption was worth getting past my initial dislike. This book can be very uncomfortable for someone that has a McDowell in their lives but it is a good read that makes you think about the people in your life.

I rated this book 4 out of 4 stars. I loved the character developments of each character including McDowell himself. I didn’t like the confusing timeline and how long it took me to figure out the time in between events.

First I must say I enjoyed reading this book. It consists of two parts and frankly a proof of not judging a book by the cover. I have seen lots of hate towards it but, unless you read it to the end you won't understand its concept. Am just sad it ended the way it did but the book is excellent and I would definitely recommend it to others.

This book is definitely interesting. I haven't completed the book yet, but it is truly engaging. It's hard to understand whether the main character is good or bad. The book is quite huge and it is divided into two parts. I am excited to complete the book. And I feel most readers would enjoy reading the book.

I gave the book 4 out of 4 stars. I was generally surprised with how I actually liked it because I really didn't care for Hiram McDowell at first, but I eventually rooted for him towards the end. I love the the depth of a lot of the characters in the book.

Overall, I thought "McDowell" was a great book. Hiram was not a likeable character at all in the beginning. As the storyline unfolded, I thought he had a lot of good qualities. What I liked about the book is that Hiram is real. He is far from perfect but he grows and develops as a person.

I really like this book; the writing style of William Coles was such interesting. I rated this book 4 stars. I like it that characters were well introduced and developed. If not that this book had no sense of time, I would have loved everything about it.

Overall this was a good book. It demonstrated the human capacity to improve oneself. Hiram became a better person during the worst time of his life.

Definitely a 4 out of 4. It was so compelling and the character development was so well done. It's not usually the type of book I read but it really blew me away.

I just finished my review of this book early yesterday and got the good news of it being published already, reason why i’m really excited to tell you all about my wonderful experience as I do the said review.

This book, to me, is one great read! It may be fiction, but the author has made it appear to be so close to reality! William H. Coles pulled his story successfully, tackling on controversies like adultery, elicit affairs, dysfunctional family relationships resulting to juvenile delinquency, greed for power and corruption, to name a few, issues that haunts our present society. But dark as it is, I’m happy to a glimpse of redemption that the author has provided when our main character, Hiram, was convicted of 2nd degree murder and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Someone may ask, how could this negative situation bring about redemption in Hiram’s life? Well, it was during this time that he decided to breakaway from jail and run into hiding, while he planned to get back to his enemies with a vengeance. But much to our surprise, it was this time that he came to know a group of people who accepted him without question, and taught him good things about life, giving him a much better perception of life.

Last but not the least, I agree that a final proofreading will do good to this read, but nevertheless, I still give McDowell a 4 out of 4 stars because of its captivating story, so deserving to be #BOTM for the Month of October! And, as to who should read this book, I would like to recommend it to readers 18 years old and above who love multi-genre books. Congratulations again to the author!
