Can't imagine how Elizabeth must have felt when her therapist encouraged her to join and stay in a cult. It's so sad to hear about the physical, emotional, sexual, spiritual, and financial abuse that took place in a big chunk of Elizabeth's life. It's good to know that by meeting Judith, Elizabeth begins to realize what is actually happening and break free from George and his cult. I'm glad you found this to be compelling and easy to read. Also, it's great to know that many would be able to enjoy this read, and I'm glad you were one of them! Thank you for sharing!

The Cult Next Door is an eye-opening memoir of Elizabeth R. Burchard, and it needs the courage to write such a painful experience. And in this memoir, Elizabeth brilliantly exposed the charismatic manipulators and their destructive cults and how they exploit the innocent people in the name of healing and enlightenment. Thanks for a great review and summarizing the main points of the book briefly.

Great review, very thorough. This nonfiction memoir sounds sad, intriguing, frightening, and educational. I really feel for Elizabeth who not only starts being abused by her own mother at a young age but then, plagued by depression, goes on to become ensconced in a cult. It’s good to know going in that she escaped or it may be too much to handle. Thanks so much for sharing.

This book was captivating from the start. The author's imagery in Liz's mom's apartment was vivid and compels me to read the whole book. I hope Liz ends up ok.

This memoir showing how easy it is to become entangled with a cult is a story that must be told. Elizabeth's story could help others to become aware of what cults are and encourage them to take steps to become free.

A nonfiction memoir about cultism, deception, redemption. There must be some heartbreak, tears. Sorry I won’t be able to read it. So I will pass.
Congratulations on being BOTD.

Thanks a lot for this review. In fact, many young and old women of this age get manipulated in the hands of those who should protecting them. It is a book worth reading.

Thank you for a nice review on this book which is a memoir of author Elizabeth about her experiences when she had gone to seek psychological treatment for stress relief and got exploited and abused from all fronts, and about which she was not fully aware until she comes across a friend Judith who tells her what is wrong. It appears like quite a eye opening book about some of the cult practices.
life is only knowing the unknown, we can do this by reading books easily- Online book club is a great place for this. This is what I believe.

Thanks for the wonderful review. It's quite disturbing yet it's the reality of so many people going through abuse in different forms. I think such books gives strength to anyone going through such difficult situations.

The cult next door is a book I would like to read because from the reviewer's review on this book, I feel eager and hungry to read it. I just hope Elizabeth haven't been totally damaged before her helper came. Thanks to the reviewer. That was an amazing review.

Very good review. I find it fascinating how people can control others. It’s true that cults don’t have to be of religious background. I’m intrigued to read Elizabeth’s story and how she got through it.

I have read quite a few stories about cults; there's something about them that fascinates me. You're right. Cults don't have to be religious. This one sounds quite fascinating. Having received the highest rating, it must be quite good. Thanks for introducing us to this book. It's one I'll have to check out for myself.

Elizabeth became involved in a cult led by her therapist? Yikes! I feel sorry that she had to go through all that. :( Cults truly are dangerous. Great review!
