Sounds like a very interesting read, but definitely not for those that may be triggered by the mentions of abuse.

Excellent review ! I would enjoy the book and these abuses have become more visible in last couple of decades. It sounds an intriguing story where a woman getting in the cult through her doctor. I appreciate your efforts on writing this wonderful review with an added note that people who have suffered through abuse at different stages of life may find it disturbing as well.

I read the first few chapters of this book, and it really shows how early life experiences can make you prey for abusive and controlling people. Based on this review and the first few chapters, I definitely plan to read the rest of it. I can certainly see how this book might not be for everyone, given the sensitive nature of the topic.

I hate that people in positions of authority abuse those that trust and rely on them in order to feel more powerful. It's so sad that the author had to go through this, but hopefully her account will save someone else from a similar situation. At the very least I hope that she has come out of this stronger and a better person. Thank you for the helpful review.

I cannot imagine the extent of hold a cult can have on a person's psyche, specially when that person realizes that whatever is going on is not right and still cannot seem to escape its clutches. I do want to read this memoir. Thanks for the enlightening review!

What an informative review! It is true that people in authority will always have a certain level of influence and thus can easily mislead others if they choose to or even unknowingly. Nice to see that someone came who eventually helped the author to confirm the reality that she had been doubting always. Thanks for the review. I will have to read this.

Great review! I find abuse storylines too disturbing to read but I don't mind as long as it contributes something in its theme and development. I too am not a fan of violence, still, I'll give this book a read.

It's scary to think that a person could gain control over someone's life like this, but it happens all the time. I feel like not only is this an interesting story, it's also a cautionary tale which could help people to know what to be on the look out for...so they too are not manipulated in a similar fashion. Thanks for your great insight!

Good review! I too reviewed this novel in the volunteer reviews. I found it intriguing. However, the story became monotonous sometimes due to the repeated narration of den activities. The plot is appealing and relevant to the contemporary scenario. It includes all types of abuses, like the emotional, financial, verbal, sexual, and financial. The story depicts how a person with charisma can fool an ordinary person like Elizabeth and make her join the disastrous cult.

Most of the cults are followed by brainless people. If they had a little brain, they would have never gotten in that trap. The life of Elizabeth is interesting, however i'm not really interested in reading a story that involves cults. So I'll pass this one. Congrats on BOTD.

The book is indeed a heavy read as it contains a theme of abuse in all different angles. I wonder what became of Elizabeth's breakthrough. Nice review!

For some reason, I've always been fascinated by cults. Not to the point of joining one of course, lol, but definitely in learning about them. I plan to add this to my "want to read" shelf. Thanks for the review!

Non-fiction about abuse, especially on a woman is not my scene. I do not have the stomach for it. I am sure those that fancy this genre would find it interesting as the reviewer gave it a perfect rating. Congrats to the author for winning BOTD.
