Great review. It’s very intriguing. I try to keep an open mind as to what others think and their debate on various religions. I find it interesting even though my beliefs will not be changed. I will put this on my list.

Thank you for the thorough review. I really like how one can get a clear feeling of what the book is going to be about. How can something referred to as a gospel of Judas be anything but controversial? He is such an iconic traitor figure that a hypothesis the Wahler raizes is quite brave and intriguing.

I feel like scribbling across this book a big "blah, blah, blah," if only it wasn't an e-book. I know I'm supposed to respect people's beliefs, and I generally do, but this, this is just preposterous! If Judas was so "self-sacrificing," how come no one wanted anything to do with his field, "the field of blood" even after his death?
Why would he commit suicide in the first place? Oh wait. The Bible's interpretation is all wrong, and research conducted thousands of years before is blabberdash until the great (gnostic) interpreter was born to counter the painstaking efforts of dedicated Bible students interested in finding the truth. Judas, the betrayer, is now the obedient and faithful disciple, wow! Anyway, I'm not really surprised, the "Bible" did foretell of a time like this when people will speak "twisted things to draw the disciples after themselves..." "misleading and being misled." Do I need to mention I won't be reading this?

Indeed, Misreading Judas is not an easy read. For a book like this with such elaborate details and theological terms.

I think this book must be suitable for Bible scholars or those who have a basic knowledge of theology.

Thank you for the detailed review.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Benji.

Judas was not Jesus’ betrayer but his obedient student? Jesus only one in a long succession of Masters? While I believe that Judas’ gospel was left out of the Bible, I’m less sure of the other two, much less sure. How do we account for the multiple gospels that tell the story the same way? I will give this a read, as it doesn’t hurt to hear other viewpoints, but I reserve the right to totally dismiss the conjecture. Thanks for the informative review.

I like your review and many of the things that you told me I have learned from the History Channel. I did not know much about the Gnostics until learning about the history of the Bible. I was surprised to learn that the orthodox sect that exists now was one of many Christian sects, but that the orthodox sect killed the people in the other sects. The traditional version that we came to know was because the orthodox Christians destroyed the writings of these other groups. I very happy to learn that this tradition is now being examined by Biblical scholars.

To shed some light and positivity toward Judas as a sacrifice rather than betrayer sounds like an interesting and unique book. Saying that no one has translated the Gospel of Judas correctly is a bold statement. I wonder why the author states that the apostle, James the Just (a.k.a. Judas), came after Jesus as "Master". I agree, this statement would be a turn-off, but it's good to know that you found the writing to be clear, easy, organized, and with little errors. I also agree that those that open-minded and those interested in the Bible would want to take a chance on this book. Don't think it's for me, but thank you for sharing!

Thank you for the review. While this research around the true nature of the biblical figure known as Judas sounds interesting, I am afraid that this kind of reading is not for someone like me. After all, the concrete evidence is minuscule and to debate on most of the content of the Bible becomes merely an exercise of speculation.

I have read and listened to some people who write about the "Gospel of Judas".One of these group of people is gnostic people.I always rejected this thought. The so called "gospel of Judas" has never existed. This is probably a missreading and a miss understanding of the Bible.Gnostics always think that everything in the Bible is just images. So we need to analyze these images to understand the Bible. This idea is completely wrong. There is no miss reading of Judas.Judas is just a betrayer. When someone wants to reject,he creats nonsense facts.

Not too much of a fan of questionable biblical theory. The story of Judas was about betrayal, so Wahler is wrong. Interesting review, though.

This is a very different interpretation of Judas and Jesus. I’m curious why the author thinks this belief is more true than that written by supposed real apostles Mathew and John, not to mention Luke’s careful research and compilation of first hand accounts. Intriguing!

I grew up in a Catholic household so my views will remain the same. My friends are of different religions and we all respect each others' belief so I shall do the same of the author's.

Misreading Judas by Robert Wahler is quite good and informative to those that it is meant for. Personally, I do not agree to his views because it contradicts my theology. It contradicts what my Bible says, and I strongly believe that the Bible is the Word of God. I also believe in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. I don't see reason with the author at all about Judas being James. Meanwhile, like I said before, the book is quite good and informative to those that it is meant for.

It is always interesting to read new views on why Judas betrayed Jesus. This will certainly make for an interesting book. Congrats on BOTD.
