I like the idea of "sitting at the kitchen table listening to a story and looking through old scrapbooks." I'm not really in the mood for memoirs at this time, but who knows, the sample might change my mind. Thanks for the review.

I look up to my dad a lot, so I love how the author dedicated this book to her father. Great review!

If you enjoy stories of overcoming adversity, living out faith, and giving back to others, you won’t be disappointed.
I do enjoy stories of overcoming adversity, I equally love stories of living out faith and giving back to others. In essence I should enjoy reading this and finish off feeling fulfilled.
This review seems to be perfectly written. Kudos to the author on the honour done to her Dad by immortalising his life in print and Congrats on #BOTD.

I don't read biographies and memoirs, but I have to say the author posits a pretty good reason to read them. We can all learn by example, especially from men and women who have lived good lives. I think this is a great tribute from the author to her father, and it sounds like a wonderful gift to his memory.

Indeed, a heart warming and inspiring read. This delightful memoir of a man by his daughter, documents how Jimmy Mathis grew from struggle to a successful man. A man worth emulating.

I like your review and how much you enjoyed the book. I think that overcoming difficult life circumstances can make or break a person. In this case, it helped Jimmy follow his dreams and become successful. I am eager to read this book, so that I can discover how he adapted to going from a rural life to going to college in the city. I am interested to know all about these family vacations and how Amy has honored her father.

Memoirs provide learning to readers, giving inspiration and motivation for a better way to live. They make us realize that whatever hardships one encounters, there is always hope as long as give your all to anything you set your mind at.

How lovely that the author included photos to push along the story. I think images can be a good addition in any book, even for adults, and it's nice when they are included. Also, I spent my school year in a midwest city and summers on a southern farm, so I really appreciate it when city dwellers get a taste of rural life. In many ways, I believe the country is better. I am happy you got this glimpse of rural living.

Thank you for the review. While it is not my type of reading, this memoir sounds like an interesting story of overcoming adversity, working hard to get ahead, and returning things to the community.

I am especially moved by this story because it speaks to me on a personal level. I think memoirs definitely have an important place in the literary canon!
