I'm not a fan of memoirs, and the fact that the grammar isn't good just turns me off even more. This is a no from me.

Sounds like an inspiring and lovely book. But it's not one I would read.

I really enjoyed your thorough review! I’m excited to read this book, I have just started it and can already say that I agree with what you have to say about it. Also I do like the realness of the way it’s written, although another round of editing could definitely help it reach its full potential.

The lessons woven into the narrative are not rocket science (although he was a rocket scientist!). But they are wise. Some examples include: value of a dollar earned and hard work; respect for family and traditions; importance of gratitude and generosity; formation of discipline and good habits; priority of family over work; importance of creating memories and forming traditions; and importance of seeking counsel from others (including your spouse) when making significant decisions. Jimmy’s life is not something unattainable. He came from ordinary (though difficult) circumstances and applied a philosophy of hard work combined with faith and family values. With wisdom and hard work, an impactful life such as Jimmy’s is within reach for the average person.
These are all very important lessons. Sometimes simplicity can be much more powerful!
I appreciate the author's humble approach and the not being preachy tone.
I also liked very much that you shared your experience with the book, being, as you said, a "city girl".
Great review, thanks!

From a sampling, this is an interesting memoir about the author's father. It was interesting how the author divided her father's story into 3 parts and how each part, while about the same person, is distinct. While memoirs are not my favorite genre, it is always important to read about people who can be used as lessons for future generations. Well Done.

I would love to see the printed version of this book as the photos were harder to appreciate on the Kindle.

Sounds like he was a great dad, that not only inspired his children, but those in the community as well. It sounds like the author did a great job paying tribute and it sounds like a very pleasant read.

I am happy that the author gave back to the society after achieving success. This selfless act speaks highly of him. I am not a fan of memoirs. However, I will add it to my to-read list. I believe there is a lot to learn from the author's life, otherwise, he wouldn't have written the book. Thanks

This is one of the best reviews I have read in a long time! It is almost as good as reading the book. I really enjoyed how you hit all of the points the author wanted to portray. Thanks again!

This memoir presents the love story of a daughter reflecting upon the life of her father. Through the anecdotes depicted, the author describes lessons learned from a life well lived. The message is to be appreciative of the lessons in other people’s experiences and to take advantage of the guidance gained from the wisdom of others. This is a touching tribute from a daughter to her father.

'Official Review: Like Saving Summer in a jar by Amy Mathis' is a solemn advice to the readers about reading the book. The words such as 'gap between expectation and reality', 'priority of family over work' help us to live with clarity. The lesson of value of a dollar earned and hard work mentioned in the review makes it memorable. The review provides stability of thought.

Although memoirs aren't exactly my go-to genre, sometimes a reader just needs an easy-to-read, heartwarming, and inspiring like this one about Jimmy Mathis. It sounds like this one brings a bit of wisdom and life lessons to the reader in an easily approachable way.

Enjoyable review, I definitely, would like to read this book. Learning doesn't always come in teaching. But I too believe that someone can change for the better after reading or copying a role model life. Jimmy and his way of life actually captured my attention. People who value giving back to society.

I generally don’t read memoirs, but positivity is always good. Hard work is a habit we should all have. I agree that family should always come first. I don’t know that everyone in a less than desired position can attain the life Jimmy lived. It takes more than hard work. Nevertheless, this seems like an interesting story. Thanks for the in-depth review.
