It sounds like a good historical romance with the likely setting of a war taking place. I don’t know much about the Anglo-boer war so the author’s details seem interesting instead of routine to me. I think I will try to read this one, you did a great job reviewing the novel.

So how is a man going to war to prove the love for his girlfriend not cliched or banal? It has been around for ages and I don't think this could have a fresh insight in that perspective. I would really give it a read for the history of the war if it was well documented.

Almost all kinds of book appeal to me and reading this review is really enlightening. The title itself is intriguing, and the sample was equally so. Your description of how the storyline went made it more enticing, especially when you mentioned the author's use of rare words.
