When I first looked at the cover and title, I was ready to pass this book over, but reading the review made me change my mind. I like historical fiction, and no amount of research can top the author being able to draw from firsthand experiences for this type of book. I look forward to checking it out!

I absolutely love historical fiction surrounding wars, and especially those grounded in personal experiences. Freda seems to have created both an exciting story and one that is informative as well on the nuances of the Vietnam "police action".

I was somehow reminded of the Broadway Play "Miss Saigon" which had elements of romance and which was also set in Vietnam during the war.

This coming-of-age story is about James, a man who will fight in the Vietnam war, and Samantha, a teenager rebellious girl. Their love story takes an interesting turn when Sam confesses she is pregnant with another man's child. Not my type of book.

I loved the fact that the author made it realistic and probably did a lot of research on the Vietnam war. One thing I'd love to know is what decision James made about Sam carrying a child for another man given that they were kind of together. Enjoyed reading your review.
