This sounds very interesting, and although historical, the issues of war and paternity are definitely extremely relevant today. I will definitely take a look, especially as I saw Madame Butterfly which tackles some of these issues from a different cultural standpoint.

The story sounds interesting and heartwarming with romance and the themes of relationships and commitment, although I do not like the topic of war even if it doesn't describe all its gory details. Still I believe those who want to learn more about the history of the Vietnam War will appreciate it as the author wrote from his personal experience and everything is authentic. Thank you for this wonderful review and explaining the book so wonderfully. I like some war time stories and this one seems like a really good one. I'd love to hear more about the Vietnam War. I'm also interested in reading this book because of the main characters and their development, accurately portraying these fictional characters lives before, during and maybe after the War. I think this is going to be a good book to read and i like historically accurate books which I think this will be.

I found the first few pages to be a little too dense on details that, so far as I was able to read in the preview, didn't really have any relevance to the story. However, I do like that the author has paid so much attention to detail. Shortly after the entrance of Sam, I felt that I was becoming more and more intrigued by the characters and want to read more. I am of the old school class that likes a hardback book in my hands and would definitely enjoy getting a full copy of the book.

I will admit that this is not my usual kind of genre, but I do love it when an author shows realism and authenticity in narration. Stacy K. has pointed out the authors attention to detail, which intrigues me.
She mentioned something about James not facing the consequences of his conniving ways, but the truth is; this is often the case in real life! If the author had portrayed a situation where Karma caught up with him like we would expect, that would negate the authenticity of the story.

A book that is revered for its great character development always gets my attention. To refer to a war as memorable and scarring as the Vietnam war as police action sounds like downplaying its seriousness. A very unfortunate occurence. This sounds like a historical fiction for me.

When I first read the cover, I thought that this would be a different kind of book. I am pleasantly surprised that this is a story about the Vietnam War. My uncle served and he had a very tough time adjusting to civilian life especially since the Vietnam War was liveried by the American public. I like the title of the book and the backstory behind it.
