Excellent review of the book! I recently previewed this book and it seems like it would make for a fun read. I noticed there's a lot of dry humor when Melville is narrating the story. And it's quite hilarious to a fan of dry humor :lol2: . I've already added this one to my list and shall do the same for the others in the series.

I hope George and Mad Dog are able to find the missing Chinese mask! I'm glad you enjoyed this read and that you found George's perspective interesting and realistic. It's great to hear that the author does a great job in taking the reader into the past with descriptive details. The name Mad Dog alone does sound like he would be an interesting character. Glad that was true and that the supporting characters enhanced the plot. Adventure and espionage aren't for me, but it's nice that you enjoyed this one so much! Thanks for sharing!

I’m always impressed when an author does their research and is true to the time period as much as possible, leaving room for artistic license.
Nice review.

Although I do like mystery and adventure books, it seems a little cliche. Being in the point of view of a character who is more of a tag along of the crazy mystery solver; reminds me a bit too much of Sherlock Holmes -which is already based off an Edgar Allen Poe short story. I mean, it’s pretty short, so I might otherwise give it a shot.

Thanks so much for the thorough review, but I don't think this story about the search for a Chinese artifact is my cup of tea, however well written the characters may be.

I have read the introduction to the Book of the Day, "The Mask of Perpetuity" by Martin Jones.
While I am not usually a fan of this genre of writing, I do find Mr. Jone's book entertaining. It held my attention and intrigued me.
Being a "Star Trek: The Next Generation" fan , I could not help but think of Capt. Jean-Luc Picard's alter-ego from the Holodeck.
I give this book a 4 star rating. I would like to read the rest of the book.

I am eager to read this book! I enjoy time period/historical fiction novels and this book sounds like a must-read for me! The characters sound engaging and like they make the story really fun to read. I'm eager to read how he handles being thrown into the world of espionage so unprepared. I can see it being a tricky situation for him! Thanks for the engaging review!

This adventure novel seemed fun, how an ordinary person becomes entangled in a quest for a missing artifact is very intriguing. Looking forward to read this and know George!

I have loved the detail in your review. It makes it easier to understand the synopsis of the book.

Well, an adventure to recover the lost mask of perpetuity in a world of espionage.
