I love that this book also deals with how the family and friends of a rape victim are also affected. This sounds like an intense read, so I think I'll leave it until I can devote the right frame of mind to it. Thanks for a lovely review :)

Good review! Even though I am really not a fan of memoirs, I consider writers of memoirs brave because their thought scope for making their stories interesting is usually relatively limited. So a writer who recounts real events in an interesting manner is quite commendable. The theme of rape is topical and global, so this should be a good read

This should be a very inspirational read by a rape-victim written in the first-person POV. I would like to give this read a try to know how people strongly move on in life after anything as such happens. Thank you for the review!

The author deserves all admiration for having found the courage to tell her story and to help others find the strength to heal. I like the fact that the book addresses less discussed topics such as "secondary trauma" of the victim's family and friends, but also more optimistic ones such as "post-traumatic growth." Thanks for an interesting review!

This is a very helpful and well written review of an equally helpful looking read. The trauma of rape is best left unimagined, unfortunately it is a daily occurrence worldwide. Full support has to be constantly given to all advocates of end rape/no to rape as well as those working to help victims.
Big kudos to the author for sharing her personal/painful experience and congrats on #BOTD

A true story of Kristine Irwin in her memoir "Voices of Hope", which depicts about her rape, and after that how she was able to moving on not just as a woman, but also as an advocate for other victims undergone similar assault. The story nicely portrays the aftermath of such unfortunate incident. Nice job done by author by writing this book to make others aware of such problems.

This is an emotional, helpful account that will be very useful to people that have similar experiences as the author. Getting more than one perspective of the incident is another interesting feature. Nice review.

I'm quite sensitive to this topic. Even though the author left the traumatic part, the aftermath and the feeling of the victim will not sit well with me. However, as I strongly advocate about the stigma surrounding rape victims, I'd still give this book a try. Thanks for your review!

I'm glad that the author is speaking out for both victims and the loved ones of victims by including both her accounts and the accounts of her friends and family; such an incident affects everyone the person knows and themselves, so it good to hear multiple perspectives on the path to the victim rebuilding her life. I just hope to find that the author's loved ones were supportive of her in this time. It's too bad about the second-to-last chapter, but it sounds like the rest of the book is written well and impactful, so I might give it a try. Thank you for the helpful review.

I would rather rate this book 4 star. It's educative and comprehensive. The author and the reviewer have really done a good job of telling us the effects of rape on the individual so those who have not experienced this will know how it is.

I very much appreciate Irwin decision to write this book about the unspeakable act she was subjected to. It's an abomination for anyone to subject another to rape or something else so painful. It's a book I would want to read. Thanks for the review.

I think Rape is an unforgivable act. If i was to be part of those who wrote the constitution, perpetrators would get capital punishment no excuses once found guilty. Rape victims shouldn't be stigmatized or treated like they are not humans. Am sorry the author had to go through the ordeal but the fact that she got up and became strong to fight for others who have gone through this, is a desirable trait. Good review

This book "Voices of Hope" by Kristen Irwin shares the story of a rape victim. It takes on a different approach of talking about rape different from that adopted by most in the main stream media where it also considers how her friends and family were affected by the rape. This story shows that even when the worst things happen to us, there can be a light at the end of the tunnel (she finding a good man and starting Voice of Hope to speak put against the heinous evil called rape).

It was a refreshing read and I would recommend to everyone not just women.

Voices of Hope by Kristine Irwin should be read by young women in college as there have been many cases of sexual assault against students, especially those going to parties. This would help them understand the dangers, take precautions against rape and know how to help victims they get to know. I like the way Ms Irwin introduced her book. It is straightforward, heartfelt and reflects the inner strength built by Irwin through the years of therapy and process of recovery. I find it unique and helpful that she had interviews with close family and friends on how they dealt with her rape. I'm looking forward to reading how Irwin resisted blaming herself for any action that might have given the rapist the chance to attack her. Self-blame is among the dark, insidious thoughts that invade rape victims' minds and must be dealt with through continual therapy. Congratulations to Ms Irwin for her courageous book and her compassion in seeking to help other rape victims.
