Have you ever read Linda Castillo's Kate Burkholder series? It's crime thriller mysteries within an Amish setting. Really enjoyable :)

Totally depressing books. My favorites should come with a suicide kit at the end, 'cause there's obviously no hope for anyone, anywhere. Not sure why that is...maybe it's the same reason I read horror (my second favorite)? 'Cause it's controlled, and I've no real horror in my (pretty darn cool) life.
How perfectly goddamned delightful it all is, to be sure.

You would probably like Captain Marryat's Phantom Ship. Thats got to be the most depressing book I have ever read. Nothing happy or uplifting in it. It makes you want to go jump in front of a train and end it all, and take the book with you. Not recommended for any suicidal types.

I love to read mystery crime novels. Also, some true crime books if they are well researched and well written.

I try to discipline myself to read fiction and nonfiction in equal measure. I also make an honest attempt to read a broad variety of genres. I try not to focus on one type of book category but rather to strike out in all directions. For instance, I might read 'The Iliad', then 'The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nightime', then an historical book such as 'The Guns Of August'. Sometimes I will re-read a book I've read before and then jump to an author I've never read before like Cormac McCarthy ('The Road'), then follow up with something by Balzac or Proust. I've recently been reading a lot of Hemingway and Fitzgerald as a result of seeing the movie 'Midnight In Paris'.

I'm into the fantasy/adventure type. I also love a good thriller or mystery.

Darn! I just put my last book order in, too. I'll add that one to my list, though. It was a short list, anyway, 'cause two of the rodents just gave me new vet bills. And it's not even my birthday!
I realize that's probably not a title that you'd recommend to everyone (I try to steer people away from my favorite authors), but no worries here. I really do enjoy that type of thing.

Hi there Dato, I must say that I am exactly the same. I try to spread my reading out over multiple genres as well. I try to read a fiction and a non-fiction at the same time. Something clicked as I read your post and I realised that I have read "The Iliad", The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime" and "The Road", but not "The Guns of August". Ok, Ok, I have only read about a half of the Iliad. :D
