Looking Glass Friends is a fictional story about the unexpected way people can find true love and what they go through to experience it. The love story begins with two people who barely know each other. They develop a connection via a gifted book. A note of appreciation for the gift takes their connection to another level. As they discover their connection it results in the desire for other forms of communication between them. This inevitably leads to the development of a deeper connection allowing the two to share a new-found meaning for love and life.
Their relationship with each other will test the relationships they have with significant people in their own lives. This makes it difficult for them to be together. During their journey, the characters discover and reveal things about themselves. They also discover things about the people around them. They try to maneuver through obstacles while trying to hold on to each other. This book has all the elements of a complicated love story. This is a story that shows how one decision affects the lives of many.
I rate this book a 4 out of 4 because of my love for love stories. I initially noticed the resemblance to one of my favorite types of Hallmark Channel movies while reading the description of Looking Glass Friends by E L Neve. In Hallmark Channel movies, the main characters find the love of their life in unsuspected ways. They form connections in various ways, sometimes before officially meeting face-to-face. That is what drew me to this book. After reading it, I can see this book adapted into a movie.
E L Neve’s way of writing is very appreciated because the story is written from the perspective of the characters. I love this style of storytelling because it allows the characters to tell their own story the way they see it. We are able to understand the characters better and it allows us to understand why certain choices were made, whether the choices are good or bad. It allows the reader to see the whole picture of all the relationships. It shows how each character is affected by the choices they’ve made and how their choices intertwine with the choices other characters make. While the story plays out you will discover the meaning behind the title Looking Glass Friends.
The authors' way of writing also grabs the attention of the reader. The story is written to keep the reader wanting more. Each chapter reveals the answers to the questions you naturally ask yourself as the story progresses. I love the way the author created the pen-pal way of communicating between the two main characters. It is their form of love letters. I love the way the characters speak to each other in their letters and how they express their love for each other. The book was well-edited. Out of four-hundred-plus pages, there are a few commas and words that need to be either added, removed, or replaced.
There is nothing I disliked about the book itself. Besides the fact that I don’t like how people complicated situations in love stories, those complicated situations make for a good story. I recommend this book to anyone who loves love and love stories. I think eighteen years old and up is a good age recommendation for this book because of the adult situations in the book. People who are not fans of love story won’t enjoy this book because that is the underlying theme of the book. However, if you are interested in reading about different obstacles the characters face in this book, you may be interested too.
