Re: Tales from the riverside by Larry Landgraf is an interesting book. It gave me a vivid picture of what swamp life looks like. He actually brought out the beauty of the swamp. I will love to read the entire book.

I love learning about different cultures, and no almost nothing about living in a Texas swamp. Between the pastimes, diet, marriage, and occupation, I'm sure I'll learn a lot.

I love reading books that bring me closer to nature in some way - mountain climbing, ocean adventures, jungle treks - but I admit that swamps are still an unexplored environment for me. A hole I should definitely fill, and this book sound me like just the right mix of entertainment and education to do just that.

The writing style for Larry Landgraf in Tales from the Riverside reminds me of will Rogers. In his introduction he uses so many aphorisms! lol
The writing style is simple, it has the feel of a writer who is just starting out. Having not read any of his series, I would expect them to be a more polished read.

Tales from the Riverside is not my reading style but I'm sure many will enjoy it.

As someone who is most definitely not accustomed to swamp life, but also being someone who supports and loves nature, reading both this review and the preview of this novel has surely piqued my interest. Tending with the land and co-existing with the animals that naturally form there is quite the feat, and reading about them is quite the entertainment! The author, Larry Landgraf, makes the great point of how 'city folk' like myself most likely would not be able to survive without the supplies that are quite literally given to us. Reading these stories straight from a man from experience has enlightened me to a different world that is both intriguing and slightly terrifying. Glad there are no alligators or coral snakes up here in Michigan! Too bad we still have to deal with the mosquitos and gnats...

Can't say I've ever read a book about what it's like living by a swamp. But I do love a "peek into someone else's world - especially when that someone else lives in less-common environs, such as a swamp." Love that it's written in short stories too!
