Ok, so here goes

Post by kg211970 »

ok so..... why do some people say they know all about music, but only listen to one genre, and nothing else.... like for example i asked one person who just likes rap if he likes any other music.... he said their is no other music, that's all he ever listens to......just i'm just not understanding how some people say they love music, but only listen to one genre. and wondering if anyone else agrees with me on this or not......

Well, I don't know anyone who claims to" know all" about music but I do know people who will stick to just one genre, strange I know, but live and let live.

To me, that'd be like eating only chocolate. It'd start out great, but I'd end up loathing the very idea of a Hershey bar.
I do, however, listen to the same genre (sometimes the same group/singer) for weeks at a go. And it seems to depend on the weather...somehow Spring is zydeco time.
How perfectly goddamned delightful it all is, to be sure.

It's especially odd since it seems to me even any one artist or band often has a tendency to tread into a few different genres every now and then.

Are music genre tastes linked to the weather, or do they have something to do with the stars ? Wouldn't it be great if it were,.....old grannies listening to punk rock in the summer, grunge in winter and Neil Diamond in spring, great.

Could be...but punk definitely says "winter" to me! :D
Neil Diamond ALL THE TIME. "No one heard at all, not even the chair" is timeless!

Umno. Not for me, anyway. :)
Ryan Adams, Tom Waits, some Arlo Guthrie, Joni Mitchell, Fiona Apple (Tidal, anyway), Phil Ochs, Ramblin' Jack...y'know, folksie kindsa stuffs.
I've no idea why I associate different seasons with certain types of music...probably some weird psychological experiment my parents started when I was a kid.

Don't worry about it, Ant. I think you'd have to live in my head to understand what's going on in there...and it's crowded enough already!
Edith Piaf, yes! Not familiar with John Miles, though....now I'm curious.

I like most any kind of music anytime of the year. Rap I cant get into, to me it sounds like two chain saws mating. Like Crusher, Ill go in streaks. 1920's jazz for a while, sometimes rockabilly, sometimes country, when Im depressed I like silly music. Spike Jones, Tom Leher, Hoosier Hotshots, Homer And Jethro, Guckenheimer Sauerkraut Band, stuff like that. Right now Im on a celtic kick. Beautiful stuff. My cousin was kind of limited in her musical tastes, she said she liked any kind of music as long as it was country.
