Indeed. Achieving an acceptable balance is a crucial consideration for me as well. I hope you'd read and find this piece as worthwhile as I did. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and kind words.

Interesting fiction book "Kuimba" by Priscilla B Shuler, which has the timelines that coincided with the start of the first world war, but nothing to do with world war, and Americans joined Allied forces after three years from that period.
life is only knowing the unknown, we can do this by reading books easily- Online book club is a great place for this. This is what I believe.

Tenants at the time may still be experiencing what had been termed as a different kind of “slavery” as they were forced to give huge shares of their crops and harvests to their landlords. Such would defy what could be acceptable in our present times. Nevertheless, it was quite interesting to note how they acknowledged the reality that their situation was already a great improvement from what their ancestors had before the abolition of chattel slavery around half a century earlier.
It's so true that what we deem acceptable changes across time periods and cultures. I'm intrigued by this unique boy and a book qualified as "soulful". Thank you for a very compelling review.

It's often easier to complain about what we have and don't have. Yet whereas others may seem to be in better stead, there were and still are those who are bereft of even the very basic necessities and freedoms. My use of the word "soulful" links to at least two perspectives - the ability of that renowned type of music that tend to reach out more to our soul and the metaphorical way that even non-musical stuff could influence us right within. I'd rather not unnecessarily spill all the beans, though, which I know you'd definitely understand. Thank you for sharing your wise viewpoint.

I wonder where the title stems from. But I like the highlighting on new-age slavery as depicted. Great review.

I'm intrigued by the synopsis, but I doubt upon this plot being eventful. Thank you for this insightful review!

I am not a big fan of history, or the early 20th century. Great review.
