You know I thought SJ Watson was a woman, probably because he was writing from a female perspective so I naturally assumed, but SJ Watson is in fact Steve J Watson (I can't find what the J stands for though).Fran wrote:
Agree completely .... I never look at the gender of a writer or nationality or religion but that said I would love to know is S J Watson a man or a woman.

Really? I would have bet on S J being a woman ... there was just one sentence in Before I Go To Sleep which had me thinking it was possibly written by a man!RuqeeD wrote:You know I thought SJ Watson was a woman, probably because he was writing from a female perspective so I naturally assumed, but SJ Watson is in fact Steve J Watson (I can't find what the J stands for though).Fran wrote:

Ok, now that makes me want to go back and riffle through the book to see which sentence that might have beenFran wrote:Really? On the other hand when it comes to cold bitter sarcasm, men are definitely better. Take Dicken's description of London of his time. In the end it all comes to a writer's talent and your own reading orientations.

You summed it all up in your last sentence. The question is not whether the author is male or female, it's how talented the author is regardless of sex.siddi wrote:in my opinion, women do have a way with emotions. I've found it easier to identify the charecters defined by female authors, than by male authors. As far as suspense thing goes, i never found any story plot better than Agatha Chritie's. The woman knew how to spin a crime tale. Male authors lack that sensitivity, which is apparent in female authors.

I am amused and amazed by your comment. There are MANY wonderful female authors. I generally know who the author is I happen to be reading but it is very often hard to tell by the writing. This nonsense about women writing "emotions" better and men writing (what was the word?) facts better than women? Rubbish!mouseofcards89 wrote:Men. The only female authors who I have any real respect for are Ayn Rand and Emily Bronte.
This whole thread is an eyeopener. I can't believe the Neanderthals out there - though - honestly - most folks thought it made no difference. Talent is talent - no matter the type of genes (or jeans). Smile...

What a cliche! You really didn't think about that before you responded did you? Women are just as "logical" as men maybe more so as we actually think with our heads not another part of our anatomy. Yes, I realize that statement is just as sexist as your assertion that women are all emotional and men logical - at least I realize it, however...Akaisoras wrote:Both are good in ways, men more logical women more emotional

Sorry, I just re-read that. My feminist leanings are all falling out with that answer. It just amazes me to see that no matter how much things change - they basically stay the same in many ways.
