Being the fourth book in the Sheehan series, The Dark Web Murders is yet another thrilling, compelling, and highly entertaining novel by a maestro storyteller, Brian O'Hare. However, despite being part of a series, it can still be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone novel.

Deputy Chief Inspector Jim Sheehan, his partner (Sergeant Denise Stewart), and the rest of the gang stumble into yet another mysterious killing. This time, the victim is a Judge Neeson. What makes this case even worse is the gruesome way in which the judge was killed. They embark on the investigation to find the killer but are thrown off-track when yet another man is found having been killed in the same way as the judge. This time it is a teacher and his dog who are the victims. There seems to be no visible connection between the two men. It is only when a third body is found that Sheehan starts making connections. However, the killer is very smart and manages to throw the detectives off his scent by creating a diversionary case for the detectives to find and follow. This occupies them for long enough for the murderer to head for his next victim (no spoilers). What's even weirder with this case is that the murderer brags about his killings on the Dark Web. Will the detectives solve the case in time to rescue the last victim? Only time and Brian O'Hare will tell.

This was a well-written story, I have to say. What made it even better was how the author was able to write in many different styles. You could almost think that the murderer's blogs were written by an entirely different author. It was so original, creative and fresh. All credits have to be given to the author for his great storytelling skills. The main story was also narrated systematically and was full of suspense. I could never have guessed who the ‘perp' was. I was simply rendered helpless and had to wait for the narrator to spill his own secrets.

The plot was also very entertaining, intricate and brilliant, to say the least. The story was well-researched and narrated. There were also numerous sub-plots that added to the overall story and plot. For instance, the narrator tackled the issue of strong women characters in Sergeant Stewart. We (the readers) were given an insight as to how the sergeant managed to balance her personal and professional life quite gracefully. The author also tried to dispel the notion that women can't be as risk-taking as men through Denise Stewart still.

There was, and is, nothing to dislike about this book, trust me. That is except if you are not a huge fan of crime novels and the gruesome murders featured in the story. However, everything else is quite refreshing and entertaining. I have to absolutely rate it the full 4 out of 4 stars. Sadly, I did find a few grammatical errors within its pages. These errors, however, did nothing to detract from the story and were very evenly spaced. I, thus, still think that the book was professionally edited. This novel should appeal to crime thrillers' lovers and detective novels' fans.

I like that the author presented Denise as a strong female character. Also that he illustrated his own creativity in the blogs. Great review!

I love nothing more than a good serial killer book, and I'm familiar with the author, as well - the first book I ever reviewed here was his The 11.05 Murders, which I loved - so I'm all in with this one.

Thanks for your review! I have read one of the previous books in the series and I was also impressed by the author's writing style. I'm curious to find out who is behind the killings. I also appreciate the author's ability to change his writing style; I wonder how this is reflected in the murderer's blog posts. I would like to see how Sergeant Stewart has grown from the first book in the series.

The story is descriptive to murders ,Crime detectors required to but on other side it is terrible to young readers.
