As always great review! :tiphat:
Sounds like a good book that hits many issues that unfortunately still exist today. I enjoy reading your reviews as always! Unfortunate on the errors though.

That's right. However, we should also acknowledge that we already made some headway in the right direction. The mere fact that we've distinguished what should be and what's not is already a good indication. Thank you for dropping by and for kind words, as always.

It sounds an interesting memoir of personal struggle of the author and her mother. The resilience she showed to cope with the hardships is awesome. Thanks for this great review.

The way she turned her life around is admirable. Of course, no child deserves to grow up in such a damaging environment but, as you mention, she could've taken the path of bitterness or revenge and, instead, she decided not only to forgive but to fight to make things better. It's a true shame that you couldn't rate the book 4 out of 4 stars but, hopefully, the author will fix the issues you mention. I think a message like this one deserves to be widespread.
Thank you for an amazing and inspiring review.

I've always found it useful to explore all the ways in which the mixing of races is different outside of my home country and this is definitely one of them. Trials often come to future generations because of the discrimination that would ban such unions and this sounds like an inspiring read of one individual who overcame them. Thanks for the review!

That's so true. The sad thing, though, is that tragedies do happen. It is stories like Dana's that could really make us realize that there are heroes and heroines in each one of us that we could choose to bring out and allow to shine in our own unique ways even amidst the initial flaws and shortcomings. Thank you as well for your insightful and kind comments.

One of the many good things about books is that they take us to realms, situations, and even minds without us being unnecessarily obtrusive and without experiencing the nerve-wracking actual pain, trauma, or other effects that visiting them would normally entail. It's good to note that our society continues to evolve over time and our generation no longer has to suffer everything that our ancestors had to. This book sheds light on what's good on what could initially seem bleak. Dana is an admirable woman, indeed! Thank you for your wise insights, too!
